The weather has been "back and forth" a lot this week. From sunny and frosty to the first snow - and then back to rain and thaw. On Friday I had no idea if Saturday would bring more snow, just rain, or a mix. The answer turned out to be just rain, though. And today the snow was gone, the temperature still above freezing point, and the rain had moved on as well - even leaving glimpses of blue sky and sun.
So I decided to try a walk to/in the old cemetery again. I kept to an "inner circle" of paved paths (avoiding the "outer circle" of gravel ones which might be soggy and muddy) - but with that adjustment managed to walk "almost" round the whole place, for the first time since my knee injury. Was out for about 40 minutes. I'm probably still only walking at about half speed compared to back in summer, though - which is something I have to take into account when setting my "goals".
The next few days likely to keep hovering around 0'C again - so "one day at time".

Your spirit of going for walks is inspiring...oh yes, at least in English, Spirit and in-Spir-ation have similar bases. Does the same occur in Sweedish?
ReplyDeleteBarbara, no it doesn't. "Inspiration" is used with the same meaning in both languages, but "spirit" is not used in Swedish at all. (Actually translating that sentence is a challenge that might be solved differently by different translators.)
DeleteEach careful step through the shifting weather feels like a quiet triumph, a reminder that healing moves in its own rhythm and that walking gently, one day at a time, is still a kind of courage
ReplyDeleteThanks Ro. You have a talent for writing poetic comments! :)
DeleteYour sky looks a lot better than ours!
ReplyDeleteIt keeps varying, Ginny... ;)
DeleteCongratulations on your first "longer" walk! I can imagine that it felt good to see the familiar grounds again, where before your fall you used to walk almost daily.
ReplyDeleteMeike, it did feel a bit like reconquering territory... ;)
DeleteNice that you are being patient and sensible with yourself as you gradually try to regain the kind of mobility that you had before.
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil. Trying to take advantage of the days that don't seem too slippery seems like the best strategy just now...
DeleteA longer walk, in time spent rather than distance, is good. It all contributes to improving strength, balance and confidence.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janice. That's what I'm hoping for...
Deletegood job on the slow and steady, that is a great idea and the walking will help you heal.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra. Hopefully I'll be able to continue to slowly extend the distance too.
DeleteI love walking at this time of year, sadly I'm confined at the moment. I miss the cold night skys and can't wait until I'm up to full strength again.
ReplyDeleteWish you a speedy recovery!
DeleteYou're are doing very well Monica - your weather hasn't always been suitable for decent walks. The sky in your photos looks so much better than ours yesterday - grey and heavy cloud, so not a day for lingering outdoors.
