Hot Again

It's getting hotter here again - seems we can expect around 30'C in the next couple of days. Today "just" around 26-27, but with the sun glaring from a clear blue sky without a cloud in sight, still feeling too much for me. I've been out twice but only short distances. Before noon I walked to one of the two small convenience shops in my neighbourhood and bought a big box of ice cream (1.5 l, which I was just about able to fit into my freezer, which is rather small and was already rather full of other kinds of food). After lunch I fell asleep for a while; and then in the late afternoon (after some ice cream!) went for a short stroll to the old cemetery, keeping in the shadow as much as I could. Before turning back home, I sat down there for a while (also in the shadow), on a bench in the memorial grove overlooking the chapel, near a little fountain providing a "cooling" sound.

The next few days for me aren't likely to include any longer outings either.

  1. Sitting near a fountain is refreshing when it is so hot. It's wise to keep out of the extreme heat, if you can.

    1. Janice, I'm well aware of that... ;) So try to adjust my (short) walks accordingly, in weather like this!

  2. Thanks for the visit, Dawn. I was fascinated by the comment that you do not use butter. Probably because I use it a lot. I mentioned in my reply, what do you use instead?
Your photographs are lovely, and a stroll, a nap and ice cream. HaHa, it doesn't get any better. Have a great week.

    1. Thanks Wanda. I just replied on your blog too, but my answer is I normally use margarine rather than butter. Or rapeseed oil. Depends on what I'm making/cooking. I don't do much baking these days, except a tray of muffins now and then. And I keep my cooking simple too, as I usually only cook for myself.

  3. If you walked home with the ice-cream, didn't it melt? But maybe you brought a cooler with you, though it would be cumbersome! The flowers are gorgeous! And the rich color of the grass is stunning!

    1. Ginny, since I went there on purpose to buy ice-cream, I did bring a *small* cooler bag with a freezer block in it. The shop is <10 min from home and the ice-cream + two bananas was all I bought...

  4. I wish for your days to get cooler as much as I wish for ours to get warmer. Later this week we might get as warm as 18C which isn't much warmer than our current 15C.

    1. River, personally I prefer 18C when it comes to being out walking...

  5. Same here, the heat has been ramping up over the weekend and we're in for a series of hot and humid days, probably with thunderstorms which HOPEFULLY will bring at least some rain. Everwhere is brown and yellow now on the fields, and the danger of forest fire is so high that all the official BBQ places near playgrounds etc. are not allowed to be used at least until the end of August.

An afternoon nap and taking advantage of the coolest time of the day for a walk in the shade are good ways to cope with the heat.

    1. Meike, I hope the thunderstorms will bring you some rain, without getting to violent (like causing fires or flooding). - I'd better try a short walk now before it gets too hot, I think!

  6. You've found the perfect way to weather the heat, ice cream, a shady bench beside the fountain, and the quiet of the old cemetery seem a far gentler refuge than venturing out under that relentless summer sun.

    1. Ro, add sleeping through the afternoon (indoors) to that, and that's pretty much my recipe just now... ;)
