Conversing with my Knee

Photo from last week

Raining today, and I'm not feeling at all tempted to go outside. Which today is probably in my best interest anyway, as I think I managed to be "on my feet" a bit too much on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday another short walk to/in the cemetery; and yesterday was laundry day, and even if I tried to mostly just rest in between my turns down to the basement laundry room, my knee seemed to be complaining. I still can't claim to be 100% fluent in knee language, but it does tend to use a mix of increased heat, swelling and and pain to express displeasure... So today I decided to mostly keep my feet "up" + take Ibuprofen to keep down inflammation. (Kept to Paracetamol the first weeks because of the bruises, but Ibuprofen more effective against inflammation.) And I won't make this post any longer, because sitting at the computer means "feet down", even if not putting weight on the knee...

  1. Your knee is not happy and is making sure you listen to it.

  2. Oh dear, i hope you feel better soon. I find as I get older, my knees don't like me doing certain things either.

    1. Amy, that knee of mine wasn't "100%" even before my traumatic fall, which makes me a bit extra worried about it.

  3. I am amazed that my poor knees still are working, though I do grab a handrail when on steps, either up or down! They frequently talk to me. Hope yours behaves better soon.

    1. Barbara, I fear that it may take time, with winter coming up I'm not really expecting now to get back to "normal" any time soon...

  4. Oh gosh, I can really sympathize. I am having nerve ablation on both my knees, have needed surgeries for maybe 20 years now! They do take a long time to heal, because we have to use them all the time.

    1. Ginny, I've never heard of that, had to look it up... My knee is still not quite back to normal colour or size from the bruises caused by the fall. I'm hoping it will continue to get better, but now with winter ahead I'm beginning to realize it's likely to take months rather than weeks. So may have a difficult winter ahead when it comes to "getting anywhere" on my own. Ah well. One problem at a time...

  5. Hope you feel better soon, I'm currently recovering after being hit by a car so can relate to the pain.

  6. Well I hope that your knee gets back to full working order after a suitable rest. Take care.

    1. Thanks Graham. I hope so too but beginning to fear that the "suitable rest" may turn (more or less) into vinter hibernation...

  7. You are learning some more "knee-ish" every day, it seems! Good to read that you are getting on better today.

    1. Meike, on lazy rainy days with no need to go out, or even be on our feet indoors for too long at a time, we get on fairly well... ;)

  8. Keeping your feet up and resting, interspersed with occasional gentle exercise, is probably the best way forward. All things in moderation - but if it's raining then you have a very good excuse to put your feet up!
