I'm not sure of the name of these flowering bushes, but my Google Image searches indicate that it's pobably what you call Beauty bush in English, while in Swedish it is known as Paradise Bush (paradisbuske). Anyway, there are lots of these in bloom in the old cemetery just now; and that's as far as my walks took me over the weekend. Heat + grass allergy had me rather tired, and uninspired for longer outings.
On Saturday, I made the discovery that there now seem to be at least three hares living in the cemetery, because first I spotted the two I already "knew" to the left of me, but disappearing into a hedge before I got the camera out - but then when I turned my head, there was this one sitting on the other side of the path...

Today the midsummer heatwave broke. I haven't heard any actual clashes of thunder nearby, but we had some torrential showers, and the temperature has now dropped considerably. I optimistically thought I'd manage a short walk to a convenience shop 5 minutes away before the worst of the rain... But ended up in one of the worst downpours - and even if if somewhat protected by my umbrella, that does not help much against additional sudden flooding on the ground... My shoes (supposed to be fairly weatherproof) and socks got thorougly soaked in just a couple of minutes...
As I was so close to home, no major disaster, though! ;-)
Such a beautiful show of gorgeous flowers. What a shame about the downpour. At least it wasn't too cold or too far from home.
ReplyDeleteJanice, as I was only minutes from home, getting wet didn't really matter. :)
DeleteThat shrub is very aptly named. It is beautiful indeed.
ReplyDeleteAnd they come into bloom just when a lot of spring flowers (like the azaleas) have given up
DeleteWhat an amazing photo of the hare. Could that bush be a type of viburnum?
ReplyDeleteThanks Addy. No, having looked it up, I don't think it is viburnum.
Deleteit certainly is aptly named Beauty bush or Paradise bush. and I am betting the 3 hares are loving eat all those flowers, grass and leaves. probably a family of hares. he/she is a really cut hare. yikes on the storm and wet shoes... glad you were close to home
ReplyDeleteSo was I, Sandra :)
DeleteI have never seen this Beauty Bush, we likely don't have any around here. We have a lot of rabbits, but I have never seen a Hare. They sure are huge! Maybe your shoes are water Resistant rather than waterproof?
ReplyDeleteYes Ginny, that's of course what I meant.
DeleteI haven't seen the beauty bush, maybe it's called a different name here, not sure but I think the purple one is called "yesterday today and tomorrow".
ReplyDeleteNever heard that name, Amy. Will have to do some more googling! ;)
DeleteDespite the soggy shoes and sneezes, it sounds like your weekend strolls still held quiet treasures from blooming paradisbuske to unexpected hare encounters, nature’s little surprises always seem to find you
ReplyDeleteSometimes unexpected blessings can be found "just round the corner", Ro! ;)
DeleteI am sorry that your grass allergy puts a damper on you enjoying summer, Monica. O.K. suffers with pollen allergies, too, and when he takes a tablet it makes him very tired.
ReplyDeleteWe've had no rain worth mentioning since the week before last, but thunderstorms are forecast for Thursday. As for getting wet during a walk, I can't count how many times that has happened to me - sometimes far from home, which is not pleasant. But in the end it's only water, and as my Mum says, "you're not made of sugar!" :-D
Meike, I was prepared for rain, just not for the street and walkways to get flooded in just a couple of minutes! First rain of that "force" this season, I think.
DeleteIt is indeed a beautiful bush. I'm wondering if if I can find it here. I'm looking for one or two shrubs that will give good wall cover. A boundary wall "improvement" by my next door neighbour is something of an eyesore and has left me with a 6m long x 3m high blank white wall, which needs attractive plants to cover it, so good excuse to visit the local garden centres!
ReplyDeleteHope you find what you need, Carol. I think these big bushes in the cemetery are probably quite old, so no idea how fast (or slow) they grow. Or if they like warmer climate. No doubt a bit of further research will tell you, though!
