As we enter the month of May this year, there are also still cherry blossom trees in bloom.
On Friday 1st May (Labour Day and a holiday) I did not go very far, but just went for a stroll around the estate where I live. Even so, I caught quite a few "signs of spring":
Narcissi, grapehyacinths and dandelions together in one flowerbed. (I'm guessing the dandelions weren't planted, but I quite like them in the mix...)

On Saturday 2nd May, I took a bus into town and after my errands there walked back home through the city park and along the river.

The main square with the old Town Hall in the background, and fountain in the foreground. The Town Hall was built in 1910, and as the district court has just moved out of there to new premises, it's now under discussion what it's going to be used for instead.
The fountain has images reflecting the town's history of textile industry.

The Green Rabbit, one of my favourite sculptures. It's official name is Mate Hunting, and its eyes keep moving (only a little each day) so that they're never quite in the exact same position as last time you passed by... Artist: Marianne Lindberg de Geer.
It was a summery kind of day, and people were even sunbathing along the river...

What a wonderful fountain! I have thoroughly enjoyed the spring tour of your city. The Narcissi are astounding, and look nothing like the ones here. Have you ever been in the round cafe? I love the rabbit as well.
ReplyDeleteGinny, yes, I've been there. I don't eat out very often but that's a favourite of mine if I do meet someone for lunch etc. They also have a separate ice cream café in summer.

ReplyDeleteMeike, with Walpurgis night and 1st May falling on Thursday and Friday this year, and almost summery spring weather on top, it was a perfect weekend for people to be out and about.

DeleteIt looks like everything is coming alive in the spring weather - even the people going for walks. I do hope they find a good use for the town hall - it is beautiful and deserves to be kept.
ReplyDeleteAddy, it's beautiful inside as well. As it has been used as a court house I have only been inside once on a special guided tour but there are a lot of special decorations in there. So many people are suggesting that it should be made open to the public now, maybe as a museum.
DeleteLoved seeing your spring blooms, and imagining the scent of those narcissi...which look different to me than the ones I remember. I used to buy bulbs and force them to open in a water tray with rocks to hold them up...and they'd cast their odors far and wide.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I think there are probably lots of varieties of narcissi. No odor far and wide from these, that I noticed. Indoors I avoid flowers with odor as I'm allergic.
