Linking to Skywatch Friday
It's been a week of more clouds than sunshine, and also quite a bit of rain on and off - but still quite a few colourful autumn leaves "hanging on" to brighten up the views.
It's also been a "going round the mulberry bush" kind of week (i.e. a week of various repetitive household chores). (We have the song in Swedish, too - but here we go round a juniper bush!)
On Monday afternoon I went for a walk down to the river and back. Tuesday was laundry day for me. It was also raining more or less all day, and I don't think I got out at all.
Wednesday was sunny, and I got some "autumn cleaning" done on my balcony: Taking down the "privacy" trellis from one side of the railing (most of its fake leaves "gone with the wind" now anyway!); and then getting the (two) plastic rugs off the (metal) floor, and hanging those on the railing to dry in the sun that afternoon, and then rolling them up and put them to spend another couple of days in a corner of my bathroom - before I finally got them down to the basement storage today. (They're getting old and stiff, and so am I, so I'm not sure they'll be laid out again next summer...)
Thursday was grocery delivery day (in the late morning, before lunch). In the afternoon I got out for a while, for my usual walk around the old cemetery. Today, Friday, it was raining most of the day again; and on top of that it was another day of constant noise and vibrations from the park construction work going on nearby: Still just a huge muddy field that seems to be craving endless layers of grit, sand and soil to raise it to the same level as the surfaces next to it... I did manage a short walk during a break in the rain, but stayed even closer to home (i.e. did not go over to the cemetery).

A beautiful idyllic scene!
ReplyDeleteYou got a lot accomplished!
ReplyDeleteIt's high 80s here, we've got a long way before we see the leaves turn,

You've got a basement? Wow! Are there any dead bodies down there?
ReplyDeleteYP, who knows what other tenants may be keeping in their private storage rooms? No reason so far (18 years) to suspect any dead bodies, though.
Delete- However many times I've googled basement vs cellar I'm still not sure who in the English-speaking world would call it what. It's used for storage, laundry/utility room, and machinery for the building. Part of it designed to serve as shelter if needed (the building is from the early 1940s), but nowadays filled with storage units. The laundry room has windows letting in daylight.
I have seen those trellises covered in fake leaves, quite a few people around here have them. I don't do any seasonal packing away, just leave things as they are all year round.
ReplyDeleteRiver, I guess you don't have snowy winters where you live then... ;)
DeleteYou have accomplished quite a few tasks this week, and managed to fit in some walks as well. October has always been something of a favourite month of mine, but even more so this year when we are finally experiencing relief from the endless intense heat of the summer, and the rain is still very welcome, not too much so as to cause floods or so, just nice. And the colours are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMeike, October here may offer anything from sunny autumn days with gorgeous colours to heavy rainstorms and first frost. Experience tells me it's a good idea to clear the balcony of "stuff" before November. (Only a wooden bench remains there over winter, usually wrapped in a plastic tarp - but may also need to be tied to the railing if there's a storm warning.)
DeleteSuch a gorgeous autumn scene!
