Church Concert for the Children of the World

Yesterday afternoon, I went with my friend E to a choir concert in the church in the village outside town where my parents used to live. Her daughter sings in the choir, based in another small town in the area. (We were also accompanied by E's daughter's ex-husband's mother. As there is no simple word for that kind of relationship, I gave up on trying to fit that into the first sentence... They're all still on friendly terms, though.)

I did not take any photo of the church on the outside on this occasion, but below are two from previous visits:

April 2023

In April 2023 we were there for a concert with the same choir in the same church.

The concert now was a charity concert for a national Swedish fundraising campaign for "the Children of the World" which has been taking place in October every year for around 25 years now.

One of the songs that the choir sang this time was ABBA's Chiquitita (Spanish: 'little girl') - below in the original version, with lyrics.

  1. Church concerts can be uplifting and beautiful in so many ways, I find. We have one coming up in November, just a single guitarist, an acquaintance of my Mum‘s.
It is good that childen in need are not completely forgotten. I imagine the ticket prices go straight to the campaign, or admission is free but donations welcome.

    1. No tickets, but donations encouraged, in this case. There are also TV and radio programs involved in the campaign, and several different charity organisations partaking.

  2. This is such a beautiful church; and I am so glad you chose to snap the inside. Love the blue trim! And the tree shadows on the outside of the building. I remember this song well, it is gorgeous. I didn't know the translation of the title!

    1. Ginny, neither did I, until I looked it up now!

  3. It's a very long time since I've heard this song! I love the simplicity of both the interior and exterior of Scandinavian churches. Such a difference from the over elaborate church interiors we have here.

    1. Carol, this church is particularly bright and airy inside because of the large windows up front as well as along the sides, and very tastefully decorated. In the past I've only been inside for funerals, and one wedding - it's been nice to also be able to attend a couple of choir concerts there in later years.
