Yesterday we had more snow added, without any plough coming round duirng the day, and I just stayed in. This morning the walkway outside my building had been ploughed, though; so I siezed the opportunity to take out some rubbish to the bins. I also prolonged my walk a little (20 min or so, walking slowly and with poles), but kept close to home.
The latest weather forecasts for this area predict no more snow over the weekend, but temperatures remaining cold. I have a home delivery booked tomorrow, and hope that will work out pretty much as usual, without too much delay.

Your snow looks pretty, but I know it is something to deal with if people need to get places. I'm happy to not have a lot of it happening here in North Carolina, and with climate change, it probably will become more rare.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, unfortunately most people do need to go to and from places every day - which recently has been very difficult. Buses cancelled, trains delayed, roads blocked by accidents, students not getting back to school after the holidays (nor perhaps the teachers), home care staff not getting to their patients who depend on them, other patients not getting to appointments (and perhaps not the doctors either), people in the countryside without electricity for days on end, deliveries of all kinds to all kinds of places no doubt delayed as well...
DeleteBrrr!

DeleteIt's good that you were able to take advantage of the cleared walkway, and hopefully the stable forecast means your delivery will go ahead with minimal disruption.
ReplyDeleteRo, it was a bit late but they keep updating estimated time of arrival along the way.
DeleteThe tree in the second photo looks like a weeping willow. Sometimes snow is preferable to a plowed icy street.
ReplyDeleteGinny, the tall tree is a birch, the two smaller ones are crab apple.
DeleteI hope your home delivery will arrive as usual, saving you from having to do more shopping under these conditions.
ReplyDeleteWe're in for a rollercoaster of weather; much warmer today (from -7C to about +7C within 12 hours or so), wet and windy to the point of stormy in some areas.
I was glad to be working from home yesterday, and am doing the same today; hopefully, there will be a rain-free window to allow for a walk this afternoon. I've not had a proper walk all week and really miss that!
Sounds good to be able to work from home in weather conditions like that, Meike!
DeleteI am thankful you have home delivery, it would be hard to get what you need during this. I know you used to do it, but it is much safer the new way. I have grown quite attached to the delivery to my home and we have no cold at all
ReplyDeleteSandra, I've been using home delivery from my local supermarket every other week for about 11 years now, ever since they first introduced that service. Wouldn't know how to cope without it now, even in summer.
DeleteThe snowy photos all look very pretty, but I'm glad I don't have to venture out. It's good that you have home delivery and hope they make it safely to you! Is it ever too bad that even deliveries are stopped?
ReplyDeleteCarol, not in my experience so far - and today it's not even snowing. But of course in extreme weather their vans just like any other vehicle could get stuck somewhere. I don't know how far outside the city they deliver, but my preliminary ETA today so far is later than usual. Living only ~1 km from the supermarket myself, I'm usually either among the first or the last on their list (in a delivery window of 3 hours) and never know which until the same day. They keep updating ETA along the way though.
DeleteSnow finally arrived here but don't think it'll be around for long.
ReplyDeleteCK, here it will probably be staying for a while.
