Braving the Snow

My winter Moomin mug

Time to try and overcome the fear of snow...

... put on proper winter boots with studded soles...

... and get out there...

... even if just to the dustbins, plus a few steps extra!

(Cold winds blowing, so not tempting to stay out long...)

Back in - after my five minutes or so of "braving it" - I got Barbie and Skipper to dress for winter, too. Skipper is wearing a pair of winter boots that I made for her earlier in the autumn, from two fingers cut off from a worn-out glove. And if anyone is wondering what it is that she is holding under her arm, that's a little yarn gnome that I found under the sofa earlier in the autumn, and who must have been hiding there since last Christmas - if not longer... I entrusted him to Skipper to look after until this Christmas, and she's taking her job seriously.

  1. Skipper seems perfectly prepared for the season: boots, gnome and all, proving that even the tiniest guardians take their winter duties to heart.

  2. this is too funny, I love it, braving the cold for FIVE minutes ha ha ha, it takes long than that to put on and take off the studded boots. I remember the boots, and you are right, since you walk everywhere you go and you live where you live and snow is there most of the winter, you were brave and you did it

    1. You're right, Sandra. Getting dressed to go out at all, even just to the bins, is quite a job in winter. So I do usually try to combine it with other errands, or just a walk - even when it can't be long... ;)

  3. It's as well to be cautious in poor conditions.
I'm glad Skipper and Barbie are suitably dressed for the weather.

    1. Janice, my life "after the fall" is still a fine balance between fear of doing "too much", vs fear of getting too afraid!

  4. Barbie and Skipper are ready for winter! That was a nice little treat for me this morning, Monica - thank you :-)
You are sensible in donning proper winter boots even when it's just to go to the bins. No point in risking another fall! Stupidly, for my after-work walk yesterday, I thought I'd be fine without a woolly hat - well, I wasn't, but since I only stayed out for about an hour and kept myself warm for the rest of the evening, I hope I got away with it. At least, sneezing and coughing today is no more than usual.

    1. Meike, in winter I always put on suitable footwear as well as a warm jacket/coat and gloves, even when just going out to the bins. (Also used to wearing some sort of cap or hat almost all year round + my winter coats have hoods...) Hope you won't suffer any "consequences" from your bareheaded walk! :)

  5. You just reminded me I need some grips for my dog walking shoes. The weather is definitely on the turn.

    1. CK, that sounds like a good idea. I have some I can use on other shoes too but I prefer the boots with built-in studs.
