Round and Round

Most of the weekend (esp. Fri+Sun) was very rainy here, but participants and spectators of an annual race here in Borås on Saturday were lucky, and even got to enjoy some sunshine. For my own part, when I decided to walk into town, I did not even remember that the race would be going on in the city centre that day. I managed to keep on the outskirts of it, though - just snapped this photo in the park. My own errand was just to combine a walk with taking a few items to a charity shop in the vicinity of the main square.

Just now, I'm kind of wishing that I was writing this post in Swedish rather than in English. Why? Because the name of the annual race, in Swedish, is Kretsloppet - which means to run in a circle (or "closed loop"). And the same word is used in contexts to do with recycling and reusing things, like when donating to and buying things from thrift shops...

The eyes of the big green rabbit in the park have also been repaired again, which means one of its pupils moves slowly round and round in a circle (like a clock), making its expression look different from one day to the next...

  1. Excellent meanings of your errands today! Racing round and round doesn't sound very fun however.

    1. Barbara, running/racing has never been my "thing" either... (Nor watching it!)

  2. The big green rabbit looks and sounds like a fun sculpture. Hope you have a great week.

    1. Amy, I like it. Always reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, even if the rabbit in that story was white...

  3. What a perfect bit of serendipity

  4. That rabbit sculpture is so adorable, and the eye movement a great touch.

  5. One of it's pupils actually moves???

    1. Yes! It's been sabotaged (?) a number of times over the years, though... (Or at least not working...)

  6. It must have been a relief for participants and spectators to catch a rain-free window with even some sunshine, and you took advantage of it, too. Was it the same charity shop where you took your Barbie dolls?

    1. Meike, no, this charity shop in the city centre was opened more recently, and is closer for me to walk to. The Barbie dolls I donated to a shop run by the Salvation Army, situated closer to the shopping centre "across town". We have several charity shops but most of them kind of on the outskirts - which I suppose may an advantage if you drive there. But not very convenient when one does not have a car! So I for one welcome that there is now also one right in the city centre. And I think it's become rather popular. Quite a few people in there when I visited now. (I just dropped off my bag though and did not stay to browse this time.)

  7. I would find the idea of a rotating pupil rather off-putting, but it probably looks much better in life than it could in my imagination!

    1. Janice, that eye rotates so slowly that you don't see it moving while standing there watching. Walking by there perhaps once or twice a week or so (as I often do), you notice that the rabbit's "facial expression" keeps changing, though!

  8. "Kretsloppet" sounds like a sloppy food stuff - boiling up everything you find in the bottom of your fridge and pouring a tin of tomatoes over it. Nice to know that the big green rabbit is watching over you like an angel.

    1. YP, "krets" = circle, and "lopp" = race. Kretslopp = "circulation". No sloppy food connotations in Swedish - although I suppose using up all your leftovers kind of fits with the recycling theme as well... ;-)

  9. How it looks must depend upon which side you approach the green rabbit - from the moving eye or the stationary one! The race is probably more fun for the competitors than the spectators.

    1. Carol, the moving eye moves so slowly that you don't see it - probably even more slowly than the hour hand on a clock. But (when it's functioning) the rabbit's facial expression is just never quite the same as the last time you saw it...
