Sticks and Stones

On a walk to get rid of some recycling stuff today, I snapped this photo of another couple of freshly painted stones - cf my post yesterday. Here, as in many other spots, combined with old triangular cement road blocks - none of which have received the same treatment.

Below are a couple of wooden benches, painted earlier this spring. (Photo from today.) Some of these benches have an interesting habit of moving about and turning up in different places from one day to another - but I guess that indicates that at least they're being used...

Below is an example of the third colour used:

It's a large district of look-alike buildings. I have not been round to count the number of painted stones - and I don't intend to. Time will no doubt tell whether the new additions of colour are appreciated, or not! (It is only the paint that is new; the stones themselves have been there for years, to stop cars from taking shortcuts or park where they shouldn't.)

  1. Well, the purple one does match a bench. And I do like the painted benches. I am still uncertain about the painted rocks though.

  2. The colours will fade after a while. They're quite noticeable at present. 😎

    1. Janice, they are indeed. Living among them, I suppose I'll gradually get used to them, though...

  3. I like the painted benches but I don't like the rocks painted. I really like rocks to be like ...well. rocks! 😊

    1. Kay, I tend to agree... 😉

    2. I'm fully with Kay there. They could have painted the triangular concrete blocks (there is grafitti on them anyway, isn't there) but should have left the rocks alone. But nobody has asked me - or you! - before they painted those rocks...

    3. Meike, as you say, nobody asked me; so I guess I'll just put it on my "wait and see" list... (Like, will painted stones attract less graffiti, or more?)

  4. It's fascinating how a splash of paint can transform familiar surroundings, and those wandering benches add a bit of unexpected charm to the otherwise uniform setting

  5. Like the idea of painting the benches.

    1. Haddock, I agree about the benches. More doubtful about the stones, but I prefer to be mostly amused even if also shaking my head a bit...

  6. I am sure I don't like the painted rocks, I do like the aqua better than lavender. I can see why they need the rocks, I prefer them the color or rocks and I do like the old concrete left overs

    1. Sandra, the greenish ones (previous post) almost blend with the green lawns now that the paint has dried. So I think I kind of prefer those - but perhaps that may even defy the purpose? (Remains to be seen if someone runs into them!) Between the other two colours I think I prefer lavender to aqua when it comes to stones - but that whole sentence still feels very odd!! (On the whole I do think a sense of humour is probably the best way to deal with it...)

  7. The benches look quite cheerful and inviting, but I must be honest and say that I find the painted rocks completely underwhelming! They looked better unpainted.

    1. Carol, I agree. The benches look quite cheerful, but I think it would have been better to use the left-over paint on something else. (Not sure what, though!)
