All Normal (?)

Mostly grey skies here today, but I managed a turn around the old cemetery in the early afternoon before it started to rain. In the trees, various shades of yellow keep taking over  more and more every day... (Pretty much following the normal pattern for this time of year, I think!)

When I got back home, the post had been delivered, and brought an unexpected letter from my health care centre - just to inform me that the blood tests they took last week for an upcoming doctor's appointment on Monday next week were... "normal"!

That's a relief, of course. But a surprise in the sense that it's the first time in 35+ years of annual (or almost annual) checkups that I've been sent such a letter in advance, rather than just being told the results by the doctor when we meet! Whether that's to do with new routines for the whole clinic or just this new doctor (whom I've never yet met), I don't know!

Now I just keep my fingers crossed that the knowledge that I probably at least have no need to fear a sudden new diagnosis of diabetes or high cholesterol (or whatever) will also have a general positive effect on my blood pressure at the actual appoinment...

Not long after opening that letter, my phone rang. It turned out to be a nurse from the same health care centre, wanting to change my booked vaccination appointment from next Friday to 1½ week later. I actually did not mind that at all, as I had been wondering myself (looking at my calendar) if perhaps I had managed to get next week a bit too full... An extra day of "nothing special planned" felt rather welcome!

  1. Monica, I am so happy to hear this news! As we get older, it gets more worrisome to wait for blood test results. You obviously take good care of yourself. I guess once the doctor saw the results, they realized there was no rush for the appointment. The trees are looking a lot better!

    1. Ginny, the appointment as such has not been cancelled, and the blood tests have usually always been more or less ok, drs have just given me the results at the appt, not sent them to me in advance! (It's high blood pressure that's been treated ever since discovered in my early 30s, with adjustments in medication now and then.)

  2. We do love good news from the doctor. I check online for test results and the word normal is the one I want! Your fall colors are so wonderful, is that your favorite season? Days of nothing special planned are much appreciated by me too.

    1. Terra, I can check lab results online too nowadays. But knowing whether one is interpreting them correctly is sometimes another matter...
Autumn is in many ways my favourite season, yes - at least in sunny weather!

  4. Hi Monica, It's nice to see your soft autumn colours while here everything is springing into full bloom. I think it's a good idea to have news of satisfactory blood tests in the post. I can access mine on line where it's usually got info on what is the normal range but, as you said, I wouldn't have a clue really.

    1. Pauline, "on second thought", maybe the fact that results can now be accessed online directly by the patients (with risk of misinterpretations) is actually the reason for sending out that letter!

  5. "Normal" is the best news in medical things we can get, so, yay!! :-)
I am having my annual flu jab today, the company I am working for has been offering vaccinations for their employees for many years, and it is quite convenient, efficiently organised and all over in a few minutes. The only downside is that I have to travel to Weilimdorf for the fourth time this week, but I'll survive that, too.
This year, our autumn colours don't seem much different; maybe it's a bit warmer here than in your area, but we're also having many grey and wet days. I still manage to go out nearly every day - and for work, I often enough have to, anyway!

    1. Perhaps strategic for a company to vaccinate the staff on a Friday, in case there are reactions to the vaccine? ;-)

    2. That is certainly one of the reasons for organising it on a Friday (they always do that on a Friday), but also because many of the full-time staff don't have too many appointments just before the weekend and therefore have time to go and get their jabs.

  6. Tests produce anxiety and the fear of finding out something you wish you hadn't found out but will be glad you have . . . if that makes sense! We have our jabs tomorrow and blood tests in a few days. An unexpected release from appointments is strangely satisfying, almost like a holiday. Enjoy your freedom, Monica. 😊

    1. Makes perfect sense, Janice - at least if the "something" can be treated! ;)
