Angels

It has become my tradition to put up my collection of Angels for St Lucy's Day (13th Dec), which this year falls on the Saturday before 3rd Advent Sunday. The glass angels in my living room; and the rest in the window of my study.

I think I've mentioned before that all these angels have come to me as gifts from friends - I haven't actually bought any of them myself. The porcelain angel to the left is the only one that has been with me from early childhood; the rest have come flying in one by one much later in my life.

This song is from one of the Christmas albums that I have on CD.

  1. I love the old Christmas songs, from before the recording industry made a whole new genre' out of music at Christmas-time. So Christmas Eve services are very attractive, even though I have little voice to croak the tunes I love.

    1. Barbara, I tend to still like music I'm familiar with from back in my youth best. The days when one had access to much less, but listened all the more to the few records one had... ;)

  2. you know I love the glass angels best of all, think nook angels. when I started collecting Santas, it got out of hand and every one bought Santas, and they were Santas I was not fond of. about just before I retired, I gave away to people I worked with that had children all the Santas but the 5 I have now.. I like how you put them each out on a certain day that means something to you.....

    1. Sandra, I probably got some of these angels because certain friends knew I wasn't all that crazy about santas/gnomes... ;)

    1. Ginny, yes, I like those glass angels, and together with that tree. And the others too. Feeling no need to increase the collection further, though :)

  4. Your St Lucy’s Day tradition sounds deeply cherished, with each gifted angel carrying its own quiet history into your home.

    1. Ro, I connect the angels with St Lucy celebrations because St Lucy and maidens in our traditions here appear dressed in long white robes, and singing Christmas carols...

  6. Glass is such a lovely medium for ornaments and your angels are delightful, catching the light and reflecting it.

    1. Janice, yes, the glass angels look good both in the weak winter daylight from the window and with the electric candles lit.

    1. Addy, I like the glass ones for being serene, and some of the others for being whimsical...

  8. The little porcelain angel you've had since childhood is my favourite of them all! (I am pretty sure I say that every year, but that's Christmas for you - keeping up traditions even with my comments :-D )

    1. Meike, I'm pretty sure I could also just as well have copied both photos and text from some previous year, and no one could tell the difference! ;-) ... Yes, if for some reason I could only choose one angel to keep, it would be that one. If nothing else, because she's been with me nearly all my life!

  10. The glass angels are beautiful - as are the rest of your Christmas decorations.
This year I have bagged up almost all of my Christmas decorations and sent them to a Charity shop. I just put a few items around the living room and a wreath on the front door - which is inside a glazed-in porch, so hardly noticeable! Some of my neighbours have decorated their gates with big red bows or plastic holly, which looks very festive, though these days most houses have electrically operated gates, so are impossible to decorate.

    1. Carol, I do my decorations gradually for a reason (and have them packed in different boxes according to category). The candles etc that I put up for 1st Advent are the most important to me, because December is such a dark month here. Easy to skip some of the rest if I shouldn't feel inspired...
