A lovely spring afternoon yesterday (Saturday), and I took my new walking stick for a 'test walk' around the old cemetery nearby. I was out for about an hour, just walking slowly up and down randomly chosen paths, stopping here and there to look at the greenery and flowers, listen to birds singing, and snap a few photos.

Maples are developing leaves now, while dropping green flower petals to the ground.
Google image search identifies these trees/bushes as Amelanchier ('häggmispel' in Swedish). Lots of these in bloom around the cemetery just now.

Also pansies planted on many graves in spring, including that of my great grandparents. (Photo from another day, when the light was right for that particular spot.) Cared for by cemetery gardening staff, paid for my aunt, but I'm "keeping an eye" on it for her...

PS. The new walking stick served me well enough as light and comfortable support on a walk of that kind. (You can see a photo of the stick here if you missed that earlier post.)
It was a beautiful day to try out your new stick, and a lovely place to walk, serene and peaceful.

DeleteCemeteries are like little nature reserves. I'm fond of them, having grown up living next door to one.

I've been living only a few minutes walk away from this one for 18 years now It's between where I live and the city centre, which means I walk along or across it every time I walk to or from town. But it's also where I often go just for walk when I don't want to go far from home.
DeleteI did go back to see your walking stick, it reminds me if the one that my mother in law used in England. I am remembering I did a post once about walking canes, I have a picture of it on my blog, and a picture of my Dad's also! He had made it himself and I'm glad I have it on my blog as he left it at a store and when he went back, someone had taken it. Was he bitter? No, he said he just hoped they could use it. Lovely photos in the cemetery that you have shown us!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kay. I fell and injured a knee back in autumn and have been using one or both of my walking poles over winter. But I think this stick will be better for use in summer now.
DeleteWait! How did I miss the walking stick post? It must have been in my day off from blogging. I love the path lined with trees in your third photo, that is my favorite. But the pansies are adorably gorgeous!
