Weekend Postcards: A Touch of Magic

The postcards dropping in this week all had a touch of magic to them,
one way or another…

It's magic time...

From Maria in Singapore:
A “more-cute-than-spooky” Halloween greeting

De lezende kip

From Jarina in the NL: De lezende kip / Reading Hen
(gevelsteen/gable stone from Amsterdam)

Gable stones came into use in the 16th century, in the days before house numbers, taking over from hanging signs as a way of --- identifying and adorning a house. The tradition is alive and has moved with the times – new stones are still commissioned, and in Amsterdam, many old ones have been conserved. [Wikipedia]

Manarola, Cinque Terre, Italy

From Ginny:
Manarola, Cinque Terre, Italy (in magic evening light)

Mersey Morning Ferry

From GB: The Mersey Morning Ferry, Liverpool
(in magic morning mist)

181020-181023 from John

From John: Landscape of the Albert Dock, Liverpool - “bathed in winter sunshine”
(photograph, but reminds me of paintings by William Turner)

The Liverpool cards also came with magic Harry Potter stamps Smile

Skywatch Friday: Rainbow

Be thou the rainbow in the storms of life.
The evening beam that smiles the clouds away,
and tints tomorrow with prophetic ray.

Lord Byron (1788-1824)

in Bride of Abydos (1814) Canto II, St. 20

Cheating a little bit here… These are really Thursday shadows. Today has been all grey and wet, and I haven’t set foot outdoors!

Still Walkin’

I’ll get back to my road trip pictures from summer when all the leaves have fallen to the ground! : )

Somebody’s gotta take care of all those leaves that have already dropped to the ground…

Again a perfect blue sky to go with those autumn colours… So I decided to walk to the bird sanctuary lake, where I hadn’t been for a good while as I know they’ve been digging for laying down distance heating pipes in that area, and one hasn’t been able to walk all around the lake as usual. Turned out they were still digging (at one “corner” of the lake); so I just walked along the other side – and managed to keep the evidence of the ongoing work out of my photos, it seems… (The camera is sometimes a very good tool when it comes to presenting the world as one prefers to see it, rather than “the whole truth”!)

Ain't talkin', just walkin'
Up the road, around the bend
Heart burnin', still yearnin'
In the last outback at the world's end

It’s been one of those incredible sunny and mild autumn weekends when all one can really do is to keep walking – and snapping a million photos…The first five here are from/near the old cemetery close to where I live, and where I walk very often, all year round. The last five images are from the ‘new’ and murch larger cemetery on the outskirts of the city, further away and in another direction for me – but still within walking distance “on a good day”… (like today!)
