Testing something I haven't tried before: Writing a post from my tablet using the Blogger app. The reason: I may find myself needing to do that, because I think my laptop is about to give up on me too... A Windows update just failed because of not enough storage space... I'm now trying to move some photos to an external hard drive. I have waaaaay too many photos and they take a looooong time to move...
Oh no! Whatever next?
ReplyDeleteMy reaction too, Carol... Fingers crossed the laptop will continue working long enough for me to transfer personal files (photos, documents) to backup drives.
DeleteAdded a photo by editing - as part of my learning process...
ReplyDeletePhoto taken with my new mobile and added via Google Photos (reminder for myself)
DeleteI have found that when one device goes it causes the other still act up also. And then I purchase two new things at the same time so then they both give up when they were out they were out at the same time. Wild clapping because your post came through really well from your tablet and now you have a back up plan
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra. The good news is the laptop has kept moving all my camera photos (going back to 2006 = my first digital camera) to an external drive, working all day without getting overheated... Hope to be able to continue tomorrow with backing up some other stuff. If I have fresh backups of my personal files I'll feel less stressed and can take my time deciding what I want from a new laptop...
DeleteI must back up my laptop soon!!!
ReplyDeleteJC it's so easy to just keep putting these things off, isn't it... (I also keep telling myself to get my photos better organized, but...)
DeleteIt came through well! I just had to get a new laptop as well. Here is the best advice I can give you. You want to get one with an SSD...solid state drive. That is the latest that everyone wants and is very fast. No spinning disc or moving parts. I did plenty of research before getting mine. I hope you can get everything done before it quits! I have thousands of pictures as well, last count was over 10,000
ReplyDeleteThanks Ginny. Transferring all my photos to an external drive took all day. Made me realize I've kept far too many! Hopeless to find anything unless I can remember when I took it! (The blog is usually the best way, for those I've used in this context...) Yes I'll try to do a bit of research myself before deciding on a new laptop; read some reviews etc. And write down what I know I want (to be able to set it up and use it like the one I have, connected to various other stuff). And I'll visit a store or two so that I can see and feel rather than just order online.
ReplyDeleteAll the best for finding a new laptop that suits your needs! As you know, I have only just bought a new computer, but have not yet spent much time on it.
ReplyDeleteMeike, I kind of use my laptop as desktop most of the time - but being able to handle and move things myself without help is very high on my priority list. So it shall have to be a laptop but I also need to be able to use it with extra screen and keyboard etc. So a lot of things to consider...
