On my walk around the old cemetery today, I noticed this birdhouse up in a tree. I only had my phone camera, but did my best to zoom it in with that. I'm pretty sure it must be new, or I think it would have caught my attention before. Whether anyone has moved in yet, I don't know... (I'd be interested to know how prospective tenants feel about the decorated roof!)
On the ground, I spotted the first primula veris of the season. I do think these flowers deserve a prettier name than the English "cowslip"! In Swedish, we call them gullviva - to with their golden colour.
I have never seen Cowslip, but I love it! I would likely have to tramp around the woods or meadow to find some. I love the birdhouse! what is the blue & white thing by the perch?
ReplyDeleteGinny, my guess is that it is some sort of plastic bowl to collect rainwater for the birds to drink.
DeleteCowslips were my mother's favourite flowers.
ReplyDeleteI think the bird house is very pretty - any tenant would appreciate it.
Janice, I'm just curious as to how (or if) real birds react to the image of a bird on the roof
DeleteLovely photos, You did well with your cellphone. I hope that the birdhouse gets used.
ReplyDeleteAmy, so do I.
DeleteWhat a lovely sign of spring—between the charmingly decorated birdhouse and the first golden gullviva, it sounds like your walk was full of quiet discoveries.
ReplyDeleteRo, it's the time of year when one can expect something new almost every day!
DeleteLooking closely at the birdhouse, I suspect that the rather fancy roof is a plastic table placemat which has been used to cover the roof and keep the little house dry. The "dish" seems to be the bottom of a plastic water bottle which has been cut down to give the birds water a water bowl. Someone has really thought this one out well using practical everyday items.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I agree. I didn't think of the roof being a table placemat, though.
DeleteBeautiful flowers and I love ❤️ the bird 🐦 house.
ReplyDeleteI love cowslip! (Of course last but not least because they are yellow.) In German, they are called Schlüsselblume, sometimes Himmelsschlüssel - the keys to Heaven.
ReplyDeleteThe birdhouse looks brand new. If a couple of birds decide to make it their family home, it won't look as pristine for much longer.
