This is a textile Christmas wall hanging that my mother made back in my childhood. I had to find a new place for it this year, because putting it up where I used to have it requires use of a stepladder + quite a bit of "fiddling" - which I don't feel up to this year. Luckily I managed to find an alternative space for it.
I used to have it on display at the top of the door leading into my study:

This year it hangs on the back of a bookshelf in the "dressing room" corner of my study, where it was easy to put it up without need of a ladder. The downside is that I don't see it from the living room, as I did when I had it on the door. But on the other hand, I can now get up close to it at eye level to look at details...
(The combination study/dressing room may seem unusual, but it just so happens that most of my wardrobes are in this room, while I prefer another as bedroom.)
In the "real world" outside my windows there's no snow to be seen. Since Saturday it's been raining more or less constantly - yesterday also combined with weather warnings for strong winds - and I've not been out any further than to the rubbish bins at the corner of the building a couple of times. (Luckily I also haven't really needed to go anywhere, though!)

No, the handmade fiber wall hanging. What Wonderful stitchery! I am a little confused how you took a picture of it and you’re in it also – is there a mirror involved?
ReplyDeleteBarbara, yes, there is a mirror involved :) It hangs on the wall between my wardrobes and that bookshelf, which serves as a kind of room divider.
DeleteShe was SUCH a talented artist!! This is gorgeous! so much detail...even a tree in one home window. This is a real treasure.
ReplyDeleteGinny, when one looks closely, there are "things" in most of the windows. Candles, flowers, Christmas tree...
DeleteI've said it before and I'll say it again, your mother was very talented, and her wonderful works of art that she created and which are still honoured by you (and probably your brother as well) are also an expression of her love for you. Timeless, beautiful, heartwarming.
ReplyDeleteMeike, yes, I know my brother has kept a few favourites as well. He's not into sharing home decor on social media, though... ;)
DeleteThat is a very beautiful piece. I would love to have something as wonderful as that, especially made by someone I loved.
ReplyDeleteJayCee, my mum was always sewing and embroidering so I'm fortunate to have several things of that kind to remember her by. (Cushions, table runners, wall hangings...)
DeleteYour wall hanging is beautiful. What a lot of work and detail went into it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janice. I've always liked it so was glad to be able to think of a new place to put it up "safely" and without having to rearrange other things.
Deleteyou are becoming more snapperfied by the day, you know how I love taking photos in mirrors. this is perfect. and I like it there. Here in USA you would call that room a walk in closet, and say you put your desk in your sizeable walk in closet.. I like it there because it is easier to see it. love the stitch details
ReplyDeleteSandra, I don't call it a walk in closet because the room is definitely not a closet. It's the master bedroom in the apartment, with four built-in wardrobes along one wall. It's just that I don't use this room as bedroom but as study/office/library (with writing desk, computer desk, several high book cases + a couple of separate chests of drawers as well) - and the second (much smaller) bedroom to sleep in...
DeleteIt’s wonderful that you found a more accessible spot for your mother’s textile hanging, allowing a closer appreciation of its details, even if the view from the living room is lost
