Road Trip 2025 (15) - Jönköping, Golf Course

Leaving Eksjö, we set off on the last "leg" of our road trip, back to Borås. The largest city between there and here is Jönköping (see the map at the bottom of the post). We knew from going the other way on our first day of the trip, that there were a lot of road works going near Jönköping - and we also didn't really feel like driving into the city centre anyway. (It's not quite as large as Linköping, but it's larger than Borås.) But we did need to stop for lunch somewhere... However, Jönköping has not just one, but two golf courses on the outskirts... And as I said in an earlier post from this trip (from Åtvidaberg): "One thing we've learned on previous road trips is that golf clubs usually also have restaurants serving lunch." I think we've also visited one of the two outside Jönköping before (years ago) - but this time it was the other one (new to us) that was most convenient: 

The restaurant is in the building to the left. I did not take any photos inside, but after lunch we went for a little stroll before we got back in the car again. 

There used to be an Artillery regiment in Jönköping (closed since 1985); hence the name A6 - and the reason for having this old cannon on display up on a hill, I suppose!!

Road Trip 2025 (7) - Åtvidaberg

 

Monday 11 August - Part 3
Åtvidaberg Golf Club

Driving on towards our goal for the day, Västervik, we were hoping to find somewhere to have lunch in Åtvidaberg - a small town (~7000 inhabitants) neither of us really knew much about. As we approached it, we saw a sign pointing to a golf course, though - and one thing we've learned on previous road trips is that golf clubs usually also have restaurants serving lunch... So we turned down that road - and weren't disappointed! 
 

After having had lunch in their rather elegant (but at the same time cosy) dining room, we also went for a stroll down to the golf course and lake nearby. 

They even have a hotel on the premises - I suppose convenient for golf tournaments etc.

Visiting the Golf Club

Sunday 4 August was cloudy, and rain was expected in the afternoon. To still get out from town a bit, I suggested driving out to the golf club south of town for lunch. Neither of us (me and my brother) plays golf, but the golf club restaurant is open to the public, and a nice place to have lunch... 

The large windows on the white building belong to the restaurant. We were sitting at a table right by those windows, and below is or view from there:

The wooden sculpture out in the foyer is slightly taller than an ordinary person.

 

It was not yet raining, so after our meal we also went for a little stroll outside before we drove back to town. But dark clouds were gathering, as you can see in this photo!

After our visit to the golf course and restaurant, we drove to a shopping mall at the other end of town, where I found, and bought, a new carpet for my study. On our way back from there, we also visited the Textile Museum. No new photos from there, as I was also there on my own just recently (towards the end of July), and blogged about that then. 

But here is a photo of my study with the new carpet:

(The old carpet was red - matching the chair - and with a more classic oriental sort of pattern. With time, it got very worn in certain places, from me rolling my chair to and fro between the desk and the computer table...)

On Top of the World

Up on the top of our Town Park, you will find…

… an Adventure!

The miniature golf course is only open in the summer season.
In autumn I imagine it would be too much of an adventure just trying to find your golf ball among all the fallen leaves…

Just looking down at all the autumn colours in the park from the top of the hill is still a kind of breathtaking adventure, though.

It’s Hot

 

Just a short post to say that so far this week, things are going pretty much as planned. My brother is staying at the House, which has otherwise pretty much been emptied now (by hired help). We have kept a few basics though so that it works ok to be there. With the weather we’re having this week we’re spending most of the time outdoors anyway (in the shadowy corners of the garden!). 

We’ve arranged to meet with an estate agent on Thursday and before that we’re taking some time “off” – like going out for lunch, and seeing a bit of the countryside around town. Yesterday we had lunch at the Golf Club south of town -  the photos above are from the grounds near the club house and restaurant. And then we took a countryside detour back to the village/house, stopping at a couple of places on the way to take photos. I’ll get back to those in future posts.

Today we’ll be going to another countryside place for lunch so hopefully there will be even more photos.

Green Or No Green?

Visited the Golf Club on the outskirts of town today with my aunt and uncle.

The weather is still sunny, dry – and cold.

The only green to be seen was green plastic covers...
But the restaurant was open, and we had lunch there.
