I love the yellow leaf with the red edging. And especially I love seeing YOU!! But of course the butterfly is the star of this show, and the gorgeous blue flowers! Maybe asters? the pictures are truly heavenly! I also like the partly eaten berries, a very clever shot! What are they?

DawnTreader said...

The berries are rose-hips, Ginny. And the butterfly is a Red Admiral (Vanessa Atalanta).

Wow you have all kinds of closeups.

A good set. Red Admirals have done well this year.
What is the seed head that looks like a teasel?

Third attempt - please delete my other comments if you see more than one! Google account seems to be actng up on me this morning.
Good pictures - hardly surprising, as you took them :-)
Whenever I try to capture a butterfly with my camera, they are too fast for me.

Hi Ginny
Well your leaf is perfect as I've been reflecting on us in Australia heading into summer and the (it feels like) the rest of the world going into winter! Your gorgeous leaf confirms this! I always have soft spot for rabbits!

I couldn't get your photos earlier either Monica. The leaf is beautiful. It's the light shiny through the rabbit's ears that caught my eye particularly though.

Wonderful colors of the season. Thank you for linking up with Friday My Town Shoot Out.

The seed head is (or was) a coneflower or echinacea, Adrian.

Only one comment came through to me, Meike.
I agree it's not easy catching butterflies with the camera; I've noticed that it varies between species though. Some seem to never sit still more than a second or two, and never spread their wings in that position; while others might rest a bit longer, and are more willing to show off their glory :) Patience, moving about gently, and trying to avoid casting one's own shadow over them can be worth while.

The rabbits are even harder to "catch" than the butterflies, Graham... I'd really need a camera with more zoom capacity. One step too close, and off they go! Just before that step, though, they seem to think that the best strategy is instead to sit absolutely still and hope to be invisible.,,

I like the early, colourful part of autumn, Mersad! :)

I suppose the confusion about northern vs southern hemisphere opposites in seasons goes both ways, Wren ;) I for one always have difficulties imagining Christmas in summer climate - it's so much associated with winter here!

I like closeups, Ruth. With the digital camera I started to notice and explore details a lot more than I did in the past.
