Hibernation Art

2016-02-021

Today it's been snowing and sleeting all day from a leaden sky, with temperatures around freezing point. I’ve not set foot outside. In the afternoon, I think some time around 2:30 pm, I lay down for a while to listen to an audio book. Feeling really cold I even pulled the duvet over me… Woke up around 5 pm, with the talking book (a Swedish crime novel) still chattering on… way ahead of me… Must have slept deeply for over an hour at least - had to rewind several chapters before I began to recognize the story! (Usually I set a sleep timer, but obviously not this time.)

The picture is an overlay collage of four different photos taken from my window earlier in the day (before I lay down to rest…). Actually I think the result represents the day quite well.

It's a great image.

This really is artful, Monica! Such days where we don't need to set foot outside and get some proper rest instead are rare treats.

What a fascinating photo. I haven't tried audio books for several reasons, not the least of which is falling asleep. I'm very easily distracted and I don't think I could pay enough attention to follow an audio book.

Thanks Adrian. It's been a while since I last tried this feature in Picasa collage. But you know how desperate one can get in February with everything looking the same all the time! :)

Thanks Meike. One thing I'm really grateful for on days like this is the home deliveries of groceries I've mentioned a few times... Had one of those on Friday, so was fully stocked for this weekend, and no need at all to go out. :)

Thanks Sandra. Thawing again today, but most likely we have another few weeks ahead of "back and forth" kind of weather before there's any real hope of spring...

Janet, I listen to audio books a lot because of problems with neck and eyes. Sometimes with the very purpose of lulling me to sleep; and sometimes to keep me company when I'm not sleepy, but still need to rest! I find that different books are good for different purposes - and often the voice of the narrator matters a lot too. At night I often prefer something I already know (like an old classic), and not too complicated (so that it doesn't really matter if I fall asleep). With thrillers I usually prefer to listen in the daytime! ;) In Swedish I can borrow 'talking books' for download via my library. That costs me nothing so I can always try (and if I don't like one, no need to finish it). With some Kindle books (including many free classics) one can buy a synced audio version cheap and that's really my favourite alternative in English - then I can switch between reading and listening as I please. ... My main preference is really "whatever works" as long as I can continue taking part of good stories! :)

I spent ages trying to see if I could work out what it was. Needless to say I was unsuccessful. I like it though.
