Much Ado About Nothing

Oops, I see that a whole week has gone by since my last blog post! I blame the weather, which has continued to be mostly grey, rainy, chilly and windy, and providing very little inspiration for blogging.

Artwork on a wall near our station and tourist office.

My most exciting (?) adventure lately was probably Friday the 8th, when I went for a rainy walk into town and intended to buy myself another bouquet of tulips to to add some colour to the greyness (besides, it was also International Women's Day - and no one but myself was likely to buy me flowers). I also bought some fruit. Because I also had my umbrella to wrestle with in the wind and rain, I put both the bag of fruit and the (wrapped) flowers in my backpack for the walk back home - the bouquet sticking out a bit, but it felt secure enough. However, when I got home... I discovered that the flowers were missing! They had fallen out somewhere along the way, without me noticing. Possibly just taken by the wind; or perhaps pushed by my umbrella while I was wrestling with that in some street corner...

Easy come, easy go... (sigh)...  I decided just to imagine that they were found by someone else to brighten their day... (??)

This weekend, I had better luck: I managed to buy yet another bunch of tulips, and to bring them home safely this time...

  1. If anything like this is going to happen, it always happens to me! So I feel your frustration. These tulips are stunning; they must be prettier than your lost ones. This artwork is stunning, and there are so many details to see. It looks like there are objects on it, as well as the painting. Like the yellow hose. Is it advertising something? Is it a dog?

    1. Ginny, it is indeed a "3D" piece of art, which made me choose the word artwork rather than mural. Sort of a combined sculpture/painting, really! I think of it as a wolf but I'm not sure whether that comes from my own head or from some more knowledgeable source. Or the ambiguity (wolf/dog?) may even be intended... I think it was made a couple of years ago, at the last street art festival.

  2. The tulips are very bright and look like they are welcoming Spring.

    1. Amy, with the red stripes in the yellow they look rather like flames of fire! :)

  3. A beautiful splash of colour they make, those tulips! Yes, hopefully someone found your flowers and enjoyed them.
March 8 is also my mother-in-law's birthday, and since I can not be there personally, I always send her flowers via a service operating in the UK which is really easy to use and offers good value for money.

    1. That's a nice tradition, Meike. I've never yet sent flowers abroad, but for my 60th birthday I did receive some (from the UK). Big surprise, as I rarely get flowers sent to me at all!

  4. I love the artwork on the wall, and oddly enough the black and white side is my favorite part of it. true talent to create it and especially on the wall. I would not have guessed the flowers are tulips without your story about them...

    1. Sandra, it goes beyond my understanding too how on earth artists manage to create these big murals... Being able to get it right when working up close on details must be so different from seeing the whole thing from a distance!

  5. It sounds like an adventure. I love fresh flowers, and buy them for myself, and tell my dearest that I knew he was thinking of me and wishing I would buy flowers for me "from him" HaHa. Works for me...

  6. Murals are springing up everywhere and I'm still hoping that this summer I might get the Glasgow mural walk done and blogged about. I didn't realise the flowers were tulips either until I looked more closely when I'd read your narrative.
