Pretend Shopping
It feels like ages since I last set foot in a clothes shop. I think it was early/mid January. Before the corona outbreak anyway. Not that I'm sure I'd actually have bought anything during this period of early spring anyway. But in normal circumstances, I know I would at least have gone inside a few shops in the city centre for a look. But as things are, I have avoided that.
Today, I played Pretend Shopping at home, by going down to my storage room in the basement to fetch my summer clothes. While most of my clothes are kind of all-year-round, there are also some summer/winter clothes that I switch with the seasons. (Like, in summer I don't need my warmest winter coats and boots taking up space in my wardrobes upstairs; and in the winter I don't need my summer dresses, shorts or tank tops.)
The older I get, the more exciting the spring/autumn "pretend shopping" gets. Especially with my summer clothes, there's almost always something nowadays that I had forgotten about (until I see it again)... So, the present social distancing situation aside, it's really a good idea anyway to go through my wardrobe properly before I decide if I really need to make any actual new purchases!

I have to admit that my choice of clothes since lockdown (62 days today) has been almost the same on a weekly cycle. I work on the basis that I will be working in the garden/garage/outside or doing manual work inside and so I wear work clothes when usually I'd be going out and would wear clothes suitable to where or what I was doing. The only concession to summer most of the time is wearing lighter fleeces etc. Then in the evening I change into leisure clothes and it makes me feel that I can relax. My dressing has become very boring really.
ReplyDeleteGraham, as May has been rather chilly here so far, and I pretty much only go out for walks, and have no visitors, there is not much variation in what I wear either. I do get up and dressed every morning though, and usually take into account what I'll be doing later. Which most days include going out for a while at some point, even if just for a walk. In summer, it happens that I change clothes several times a day because of very varying temperatures. In sunny summer weather, my flat can get very hot. So far this spring I'm still wearing pretty much the same layers of clothes as in winter, though.
DeleteLots of fun for sure! They look very pretty. I THINK you like blue...
ReplyDeleteGinny, yes, I do like blue :) - and especially in summer.
DeleteThat sounds like fun! My last visit to a clothes shop was just the week before I decided to retreat permanently to my home office, before it became the official recommendation here, in the first half of March. My Mum and I attended the spring/summer fashion show at Ludwigsburg's last and best remaining "fashion house", where we usually go about twice a year for their shows upon invitation (my Mum has been a customer there for 60 years or so). After the show, we browsed the racks and I went home with not just one, but two dresses, neither of which I have yet had occasion to wear... one is light blue, the other one yellow - my two favourite colours.
ReplyDeleteWorking from home, I am always fully and properly dressed before I start work, but it is not business outfits; just a jumper/blouse/t-shirt and a pair of jeans, but the complete outfit with earrings and all, only without shoes :-)
Meike, even though I'm not working, and am not exactly an early riser either, I do prefer to get up and dressed before breakfast. No business outfits or earrings, though! (I never had my ears pierced.)
DeleteStill not warm enough here for summer dresses, but felt like a good day yesterday to do an "inventory" :)
