The Easter Chickens were really upset about all the snow we had after Easter, so I put them back to bed today, together with the Easter Eggs.
This rooster (also caretaker of a small kalanchoë plant) decided to stay for a bit longer, though. (He doesn't hibernate in the same box as the others anyway.)

Yesterday was actually mostly sunny, but still too cold for all snow and ice to go away. And today we got more snow, even if less than expected (around here). From tomorrow we should be back to rain and thaw again, though...
Luckily I did not have to go anywhere these past three days; and no need for that tomorrow either, as it's my week for home delivery from the supermarket.
It is such a blessing when the weather is snow and thaw, that you can stay home warm and comfy. And your chicks are snuggled in bed til next Easter.
ReplyDeleteTerra, most of the snow is gone again now and nothing worse than "on and off" rain expected for next week, it seems :)
DeleteI love the rooster! And he looks like he could stay out all the time, except maybe for winter. And the tiny chicks are so cute. They have their beaks wide open waiting for food, just like real baby birds do. It is a chance of snow here today.
ReplyDeleteGinny, I hope you did not get too much of the white stuff...
DeleteNo chance of snow here - and I can't say I'm unhappy about it :-)
ReplyDeleteI have mentioned already that we are in for a few summerly days this weekend, with temperatures expected to get well up into the mid-to-high 20s. It's not "normal", but it's the kind of extremes we have to get used to as a consequence of climate change.
A LOT of people here are planning a BBQ for Saturday, and Sunday is "White Sunday" here (for Roman Catholic children, the day of their First Communion). Since O.K.'s region is predominantly Catholic, the village band are playing to accompany the children on the short walk from the Deanery to the church. I have never been there for that occasion but will go and have a look this time.
Meike, I hope sunny weather will contribute to making it extra festive for everyone celebrating :)
DeleteI have not seen chickens like these since I was a child. We had them in our Easter baskets and I have not seen them in stores. of course I don't walk down the seasonal aisles so that might be the reason. they bring back memories of my mother who loved all things Easter.. sorry about the snow/rain/snow rain
ReplyDeleteSandra, I think I've had these fluffy chickens for a very long time, maybe even from my childhood. Can't say I've seen this kind in the stores here lately either.
DeleteI can remember having Easter eggs with tiny little chicks, like yours, inside, instead of chocolates and keeping them out on a bookshelf in my bedroom, long after Easter had passed. My mother probably threw them away because they collected dust!
ReplyDeleteI love the rooster and would keep that out all the time.
Carol, the rooster is attached to (or part of) a small flower pot, and will probably be staying on that table for a few weeks more. Or as long as that little yellow kalanchoë is still in bloom and looking healthy.
DeleteI love your ceramic chicken. Having real chickens here is very popular, I get fresh free range eggs from friends which is a real treat. I can't imagine having that much snow here though, that's something new.
ReplyDeleteAmy, living in a city (and rarely getting out of it) I can't remember when I last saw live chickens!
