Yes Ginny it is real. And it might have been the largest snail I've ever seen. This was on a path near our house outside town a couple of weeks ago. The most surprising thing about it though was that I can't recall seeing that kind of snails in that neighbourhood before at all. (?)
If memory serves me right, I set the camera on macro and bent down to take it. At least unlike the butterflies a snail does not have the time to escape during the time it takes me to prepare myself! :)
Great photo. You take the most amazing macro photos. It is because of your previous photos that I became interested in macro photos, but none of mine have been as good as yours....I'm still learning.
