It's been a strange kind of week. Rain one day, snow the next. (Or snow during the night, and rain and slush during the day.) On top of that, sometimes Men At Work stomping about outside my windows, and sometimes not. "Step by step" the scaffolding around the building has kept growing, though. An outdoors staircase has now also come up right outside the window in my study.
While they are At Work, I draw the curtains. Still not very inspiring to spend much time in that room while they're busy climbing about on that side of the building, though...
Luckily, my flat runs across the building; I can usually be rather flexible with my own activities; and out of my four rooms (including kitchen), the study is really where having a staircase to the roof outside the window will probably bother me the least.
Just now, I'm taking advantage of the weekend to catch up with various desk and computer jobs. If you don't see me about much in the blog world during the weeks for a while, I may still be there lurking in the background, though (reading on my tablet or phone but skipping most of the commenting).
Did they say when they will be finished on your building? I love your curtains!!
ReplyDeleteGinny, they have estimated 7-8 weeks per building and I think that has proved about right so far.
DeleteHi Monica, I came to your blog from Wanda's blog. I do believe that quite a few years ago we blogged a lot. Somehow times changed and now I am back to be in contact again. Maybe it's my Swedish heritage as is Wanda's that makes us "instant relatives" (:0)
ReplyDeleteI love the way you weaved the story about the work being done on your building. Great photo.

Sue, I recognize your alias (photowannabe) - we probably have more mutual friends in the blog world. Welcome back! :)
DeleteWith curtains as pretty as those, it's no hardship to keep them closed!
ReplyDeleteDo the workmen whistle or sing (usually out of tune) when working?
Not that I've heard so far, CG! The sounds that come through with windows closed are mostly of the stomping, banging, clanking and drilling kind... ;)
DeleteYour curtains are lovely, but if you're used to working looking outside, they do feel close. My living room is where my desk is, and I can close curtains too, but prefer to look out. At night especially these days when it's chilly, I'll close the curtains to keep warmer. It's amazing how much heat is lost through a double-pane window. I hope the work is done fast for your sake!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, these curtains are good in this room because they are easy to draw, let through light, but still have a bit of extra screening effect. On sunny summer days this room tends to get very hot in the afternoons. In the past I tried blackout curtains here - but that got too dark, so I ended up with a compromise.
DeleteI don‘t have curtains, but thankfully, I don‘t have workmen outside my windows, either. The last time this was the case was 2008 when we had our facade done. I am in the habit of walking around my flat in various stages of undress between bathroom and bedroom, so of course during that period I made sure to keep the blinds well down!
ReplyDeleteMeike, I have to keep that aspect of it in mind now for a while as well - especially since my study also normally serves as my 'dressing room' (as that's where most of my wardrobes are). Luckily at least my bathroom has no windows, so I'm "safe" in there! (lol)
DeleteLOVE those curtains and with sunshine coming through them they make your room really fun to be in.. lets hope there is much sunshine through the next few weeks while they climb around out there..I don't think you have shown us these curtains before.. beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra. I've had those curtains in that room for many years - but it's usually only in summer heat waves that they're drawn to cover the whole window like that... and then the room is too hot to spend much time in anyway!
