This year (in spite of skyrocketing electricity bills) our City Park has been decorated with some "Bright Art", to brighten up the dark winter months (from Halloween until after New Year). As today I was out after lunch (around 2 pm), I had not really expected them to be lit yet; but some of them were. I suppose I should go back some late afternoon in twilight to see the full effect. But for now, here is how I saw it today.
I missed the sign for this one, so don't know what it's called. But it comes with spooky howling sounds in the background...
(Saving some more photos of "nature's own art" for another post.)
Wow, the first one is amazing! and some of them look like holograms. The little red tents kind of look like little demons.
ReplyDeleteGinny, they did feel rather 'halloweenish 🎃
DeleteI think the first one is my favourite, but the red ghosts run it a close second.
ReplyDeleteGraham, they'll probably all look even more impressive when it's darker. I'm normally not keen on being out and about in the dark, but we're back to winter time now from today, so it will soon be getting dark rather early in the afternoon. Curiosity may tempt me to a late walk some day...
DeleteSo you hear howling sounds when you walk along the red ghosts? As a child, I would have found that super spooky!
ReplyDeleteHere in Germany, many mayors have been in the news, either because they say they will go ahead with Christmas lights and decorations as before, or because they say they will save money and energy by turning things down this season.
Much discussed here too, Meike. It's been pointed out that modern led lights don't really use all that much energy, though. I think the art display in the park probably replaces some of the usual Christmas lights there. As for other Christmas decorations downtown I think the plan is to put them up as usual but perhaps take them down a bit earlier in January.
DeleteI vote for you to go at dusk and get these pieces of light art all lit up. Love that face on the bridge and bet it looks even better at night. awesome art! as always
ReplyDeleteSandra, as the show will be up until after New Year, I suppose some good opportunity to do that may arise - even if I normally prefer being out in the daylight...
DeleteThe first one is most unusual and my favourite too. You can't really beat a tree with lights to brighten up the darkness, but it will be interesting to see the rest lit up after dark.
ReplyDeleteCG, yes, hopefully I'll get an opportunity to check that out as well. Probably not this week though, as it seems we can expect a rather rainy week ahead.
DeleteVery cool, we don't have anything like that here.
