The top of an old flat-topped chest in the living room is one of the main spots where I'm in the habit of changing decorations according to the seasons.
I bought a new yellow table runner for my living room table.
My collection of old Easter Eggs (all from the previous century) is divided between the bowl in the living room (first photo) and the top of the bookshelf in the hall.
These sit on the window sill in my living room...
... and these on the one in my kitchen.
Small daffodils on my kitchen table. This photo is from a week ago. They tend to rapidly grow too tall and start to wither indoors; but I just bought some new ones to replace them today, which will hopefully last through Easter.
I also bought some paper napkins with Easter patterns today.
And Barbie and Skipper have changed outfits again, displaying more items sewn by my mum back in the 1960's. Barbie is wearing a blouse and skirt in yellow, Skipper a kind of pinafore dress, dark blue with red buttons and decorative red seams.
The yellow accents are so Springlike. Especially that forsythia. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteThanks JayCee. Perhaps a pity to spoil the illusion - but the branches in the brown vase are artificial. :) I have a number of different ones that I change around according to season. I do love this forsythia one for spring. There are several forsythia bushes and hedges outdoors where I live, but none of those are in bloom yet (nor anything else but snowdrops and a few timid crocuses)

Thanks Meike. I feel I recognise the pattern on that yellow skirt from some item my mum made for herself, but I can't recall if it was a blouse or a dress or what.
DeleteYour decorations are lovely, Monica. I always admire how much trouble you go to, to celebrate the seasons, and enjoy sharing them. Sadly my decorations, such as they are, remain the same throughour the year, apart from a few extra at Christmas.

Thanks Carol. I imagine that in a climate where you spend more time outdoors, there is probably almost automatically less focus on changing decorations indoors. For me, I guess it's a combination of tradition + still not many proper signs of spring outdoors. The rooster belonged to my mum. There are no marks of any kind on it to tell where it was made, and I can't remember where she got it from - but I know she never visited Portugal herself. Googling it now, I see that it does look like a typical Portuguese rooster, though. So my guess is that it was imported from there but bought in Sweden.
Deleteeach of your spaces is beautiful and spring like, and I think my choice of favorite today is the first one.. it might be those wonderful yellow flowers... I thought of you when shopping this past Saturday, Walmart had tulips for sale all over the store. in container like your daffodils here. You are ready for Easter. I just came from Ginny and she is ready also, and several others.

ReplyDeleteAmy, I suppose it depends on what you mean with "a bit"... ;-) As you might recall from earlier posts, I gave away six more dolls to a charity shop last year. While I hope they got "a bit" for those, I'd be extremely surprised if they made fortune. From what I've seen on various antiques progams on TV etc, they're only really valuable if in mint condition (more or less untouched) with all the original boxes and clothes etc. Mine may be in farily good condition, but were clearly played with back in their day, and their clothes made by my mum (only famous within her own family circle) not likely to attract "professional" collectors. And the two dolls I decided to keep, that was just because to me they have "sentimental value".
