For nearly as long as I've been blogging, I've also been making a photo calendar from my own photos each year - just for myself + as Christmas presents to family and one or two friends. (These days I'm down to just ordering three - for myself, my brother and my aunt.)
The female mallard above, photo taken in January 2025, became my choice for January 2026. I'm really only showing it here now because I haven't been out much lately - so desperately turned back to last year for inspiration. But if I remember, I might continue to show my other chosen photos for my 2026 calendar month by month.
Yesterday, my main achievement was that I managed to take another bag of recycling stuff to the designated containers, as enough snow had thawed away to make access possible.
This morning, there was a new flurry of snow going on outside my windows, lasting all day - but not very much actually seems to have settled on the ground. I haven't been out for closer inspection, though. I had the laundry room booked for the afternoon, and in between turns down to the basement, watched the last two parts (of three) of a BBC documentary about Jane Austen. (Well worth watching, if available on some channel you have access to.)
It’s good to see January’s mama duck. I did laundry this morning also before it started To get below freezing again – since I have to walk across the parking lot to the laundry building. It’s now sitting next to me, waiting to be folded and put away, and I’m waiting for the storm to arrive later this evening with ice!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I'm lucky in that I don't have to go outdoors to do laundry but can take the elevator straight down to the basement. Only one washing machine though and today I had three loads, including bedlinen.
DeleteI, too, have photo calendars made each year. There used to be a time when I ordered 10 or more, for family and friends in the UK as well as Germany. But some recipients have died, while with my family in Yorkshire, we have agreed to not send parcels anymore since it has become much of a hassle, very expensive and very slow since Brexit.
ReplyDeleteUsually, I come up with a motto, such as Castles & Palaces, Views, Skies, Trees or something like that.
It is a nice way of reminding myself of places and moments I have enjoyed, and giving a personal and individual gift.
Meike, for my calendars I usually choose photos from the same month last year - but sometimes cheat a little with the summer months and use summer holiday photos from June to September - even if i reality I was only away for a few days... Good idea with themes though, I might try that for a change some time. - As for ordering fewer copies now it's similar for me: some former recipients have died, plus it has become more of a hassle in later years both to send and to receive parcels...
DeleteI think you should post your calendar page each month. The Mallard was a great choice. We saw the PBS series about Jane Austen and it was really good.
