Perspectives

Again I managed a walk between showers - but today with more threatening clouds hovering. As it might start raining again at any time, I just set out on a random short stroll around the nearby cemetery as usual - but then it occurred to me to try and capture some of different perspectives I get of the tallest building in my neighbourhood (20 storeys high, and so far also the tallest building in the whole town), depending on where I see it from. (I call it the Tower.)

Looking at it from among the trees on the cemetery, situated up on a hill across the river from the the Tower) I only see the top floors sticking up - and sometimes not even those.

From another viewpoint in the cemetery, I see it together with a newer building closer to the city centre, which I think is "only" 18 storeys (but wider).

Back up on the bridge, and turning around, this is the view that those with balconies facing south will be enjoying. (And that view of course must be stretching even further from the top floors.)

(The tall red building at the back in the middle of the photo is one of those newly renovated ones that I showed in yesterday's post. There are lower red brick buildings in front of them.)

The cemetery is situated uphill on the opposite side of the river to the Tower.

I could not recall when it was that "the Tower" was built, but searching my own blog for the word highrise gave me the answer - it was around ten years ago, 2013 - 2014.

The Two Towers

 ... or, Keeping Things in Perspective ...

 

Walking back home from the city centre one day this week, I focused on these two tower blocks on the horison, and how my perspective of them keeps changing as I got closer.

 

 

This view is from the parking lot to the right of the roundabout in the previous photo. (From there I then turned right and followed a footpath along the river.)

The yellow brick bulding with the sign "Spinneriet" is an old spinning mill. No longer a factory but housing a number of different businesses - including a spinning gym...

 

 

Still that old spinning mill to the left in this picture - surrounded by modern apartment blocks. You can now see that the two tower blocks are not really as close together as it may seem from afar.

Unter den Linden, Part 2

The other day on Facebook I came across an "infinite zoom art" video. Have you ever seen one of those?

There are also plenty of more examples on YouTube, including instructions how to do it - using certain apps. 

I've not tried that, and am not sure I ever will - but I sort of still had that "wow factor" at the back of my mind when I went out for a walk yesterday, looking for more linden trees in my neighbourhood... I.e. how we see different things when we look at something from a distance, vs when we go up close...

If I walk in the opposite direction compared to when I go into town, I come to this park down by the river. There are some huge old linden trees there, too (cf my previous post).

My phone camera not the best for zoom photography, but you probably get my point about how we see things differently depending on where we stand, and if we're looking at something from a distance, or up close...

 

Friday My Town: Above, Straight and Below

FMTSO Scavenger Hunt:
"High above, Facing Straight and Down Below" - Take a shoot looking up, then a shot facing straight, and lastly one looking down.

I took my camera into town this afternoon and came up with two different series.

The first one was shot from a bridge over the river.
Hotel on the left side, town park on the right.
And a surprise when I turned the camera downwards!

I think that’s the first lock on a bridge I’ve seen in my town – following the lovers’ tradition, I assume, from more famous briges in Paris, and somewhere in Italy… (Don’t remember the name of the Italian town.)
