I took these photos in town today. The colour difference on the top part of the facade is not in the paint but just light vs. shadow. It is not the oldest building in town. But at least no speculation is needed to tell you exactly how old it is!
To the left is an old shop that sells artists’ materials.
To the right of the big gateway is the entrance to a small hostel/hotel.

they all look pretty old. i like when the building has the date on it... i think 1891 is OLD for sure and beautiful to
I prefer older buildings. So much more character.
The date on the old building is a great way to remember when it was built. I like the shape of the roof top too.
I love when old buildings are not torn down, which has sadly happened to too many in my town. Thanks for letting us know that the difference in the colors were solely due to light. amazing, isn't it how light gives flavor to photos!
This is amazing, Monica! you mean it is not two toned, but the sun is shining on the top part?? I have never seen this in such a dramatic way!
I do like dated buildings - they make life so much easier.
great find. It would be fun to go through those little shops along the way.
The difference in light made a remarkable difference. I prefer the colours in the bottom half, I wonder if they are the true colours? Great old building.
And the difference in light and shadow was just so perfectly along the line of that small decorative sill!
Now there's a question for both philosophy and science, Pauline. Is it in the sunlight or in the shadows that we find the "true" colours? I guess photography tends to sharpen the contrast though, and especially in this case, with the shadow exactly following an architectural line in the building.
the first is a great photo and this portion of the building pleasing / interesting. I love how clever the dating is. I can visualize the line of horse and buggies along the front of this building.. enjoyed.
I found the colour difference difficult to attribute simply to light at first. 1809: 100 years before Cj's and my mother was born.
1891, Graham. (The 'O' between 18 and 91 is a window.) Still pretty old though (123 years).
