“Do you carry a book around with you? Inside the house? Whenever you go out? Always, everywhere, it’s practically glued to your fingers? (And yes, digital books very much DO count as long as you’re spending time reading on your Kindle or iPad and not just loading them with books that you never actually read.)”
In Swedish, my answer would be “Nja”, which expresses an hesitation between No and Yes… I only carry a book (or my Kindle) with me if I do expect to actually use it. On the other hand, when I go out, I do usually always carry my smartphone; on which I can also read and listen to books. But as I don’t travel much, and most of the year only go out for shorter walks and errands (or else in company), it’s normally only in summer that I sometimes sit and read outdoors (or anywhere else than at home).
With a good audio book it might happen though, that I carry on reading/listening almost throughout the day – both while resting and doing routine housework, and maybe even while going for a walk as well. (When I walk into town and have to cross busy streets etc I don’t usually listen to either books or music though, but prefer to be aware of what’s going on around me!)
Today it’s been raining, and I have been staying in most of the day, pretty much glued to the Kindle, reading the third book in the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths (cf my Tuesday post). I’m reading these books with my eyes though, which does force me to take a break now and then during the day whilst doing other things!
…
For those of you interested, I just discovered that the price on books 4-6 in that series (for Kindle) had been lowered since I last checked (about 50%, perhaps to do with the 7th now being out as well?) … Not knowing whether that will last, I decided to buy! (click-click-click) … Remains to be seen whether I’ll also end up reading them all in one swoop; or take a break and read something else in between!)

No, I don't carry books, around because I always read on the couch only. But I DO carry magazines around.
HaHa ~ I don't have a smart phone, or a Kendall..... I have an old fashioned book bag. And yes my book bag goes with me everywhere. Usually it has my Bible, my Bible Study Book, a Novel, a prayer book a magazine..(it's a big book bag.....)
On my daily trips to and from work, I always have my kindle with me. Same is true when I go to a doctor's appointment or the hairdresser's - anywhere I expect to be sitting around for a while, without any other action required from me.
In the summer, I like to take my weekly paper to the park on Saturdays or Sundays, but not a book.
I only bring my kindle while travelling to work, have a nice tram journey. But other than that I'm like you bringing my phone.
I like that 'nja' expression....so typical Swedish I don't get to use it much over here though.
Enjoy your weekend
I take the kindle with me any where i go that will have down time. doc office, hospital, any place i have to wait. i have been known to fry chicken with a book in my hand, i take my kindle and put it on the kitchen table and read between stirring while cooking. unless i am housecleaning, watching TV or on computer the kindle is in my hand, i even read in the back yard while waiting on the dogs to wander.. that click click click is so easy and i love when they put them on sale.
I do move my Kindle (or books, or audio device) around in the flat, because I read both in bed, and in the living room, and sometimes at the kitchen table. Actually (it strikes me just now) the room where I do the least reading (of books) is probably the study! In here I'm usually at the computer, or doing the "study" kind of reading that involves looking things up, making notes, sorting through papers... But the relaxing kind of reading I do elsewhere!
So it's really you behind that pile of books in the illustration I chose for this post, Wanda! :)
Not having a garden of my own, it is not all that often that I sit outdoors and read. But sometimes on a sunny summer's day when it gets too hot in my flat and on the balcony in the afternoon, I take a light sun chair outside to sit in the shade for a while (if there aren't too many kids around). Or go find a park bench.
There are certain expressions that aren't all easy to transfer from one language to the other, aren't there, Eva! ;)
Reading while cooking or cleaning is too advanced for me, Sandra, unless it's an audio book! ;)
Whenever I go out, I make sure to have my e-reader or my print book with me--even if it's "just in case". I take advantage of any reading moments I can get as they are often rare.
