Snowdrops

CIMG3287-001

On my walk today I took a turn around the nearby cemetery, and on one of the old graves I spotted these snowdrops sticking up through the spruce sprays – a very welcome sign of spring!

There is also a bunch of them even closer to home, in the flowerbed just outside the building where I live.

It’s so good to see some outdoors flowers again!

  1. Wow, the very first flowers of spring!!! And they are so beautiful! I really have to go to the Garden Center and ask if any grow around here. I have never seen any anywhere! Your header and background are wonderful, and make me even smell spring! LOVE the white and green. It cheers me up, too. I wonder if someone recently planted them on this grave, or they have really come up on their own. NOW I hope they survive! We are just getting over having eight inches, and now eight more tonight!!! I wonder if for once, our winter may be worse than yours?

    1. You may well be right, Ginny. Up in the northern parts of Sweden in some places they had lots of snow, but down here in the south-west we had mild weather in between snowfalls so it never built up to a very thick layer. Winters in this area vary a lot, it's one of those places which often tends to end up on the border between different weather zones. My feeling when I watch the weather forecasts is usually that they just make a vague gesture over this part of the map and say we might possibly get a bit of something - or otherwise nothing... ;)
The snowdrops on the grave were not recently planted, because they came up through the spruce branches (put on there to protect the soil over winter). No doubt they were planted some time in the past but that may have been years ago.

  4. Plenty of snowdrops here, too, and crocus and aconite, but today there was a cold wind blowing, making me wish I would have worn my very warm coat instead of just my warm coat.

    1. I've not seen any crocus here yet but they might soon start to appear in sunny spots, I hope.

  9. Beautiful flowers. I wish my snowdrops had come up in such profusion. Next year they should have multiplied and do better.

  10. Oner of my top flowers - both for their pristine beauty and for the promise they hold.
