That's the first sentence of the chapter "Piglet is completely surrounded by water" in Winnie-the-Pooh; and also quite a good summary of the past few days here. It has rained and rained and rained; and still the rain has not quite managed to melt all the snow and ice yet. I've only been out now and then just to check where one is able to walk, or not. Mostly, it has been "or not". My usual shortcuts are still blocked either by snow banks or little lakes.
Going out today, I took my big umbrella which can also be used as a walking stick. It came in handy both ways.
Good big multipurpose umbrella! After awhile, this would depress me.
ReplyDeleteGinny, I keep telling myself that it's a good thing that it's raining, because the less snow and ice there is left before it freezes over again, the better...
DeleteAlong with the snow and ice is it pretty slippery out there when you try to walk?
ReplyDeleteAmy, it has been, but for now the 'main' streets are bare again, and it's okay if you can avoid the icy spots. Still hard to know beforehand if I you can go where you had planned to go though, because you may end up facing a seriously flooded spot or an iceberg left by the snowplows...
DeleteHmm... but when you need to use your umbrella against the rain, you can not use it as a walking stick at the same time.
ReplyDeleteAh, you spotted the tricky bit, Meike! You are quite right, of course. I only needed a walking stick in a few tricky spots, though... And I was unable to handle both an umbrella and a separate walking stick, because I also wanted to bring a bag of stuff to the recycling bins!
DeleteThere's nothing like a challenge.
