Gianni Versace Exhibition

Giovanni Versace, 1946-1997, was an Italian fashion designer and founder of Versace, an international fashion house. Last weekend I went to see an exhibition of clothes and textiles he designed, at the Textile Museum here (BorĂ¥s, Sweden).

Of all the items displayed in the exhibition, I think this suit was my favourite - as in something I might actually have been tempted to try on (i.e. if it had been my size, for sale and affordable...)

There happened to be a guided tour starting 15 minutes after I arrived, so I joined that. One of the things I learned from that was the fact that they had had a lot of trouble dressing the mannequins for this exhibition (even though they had got the smallest ones available). Evidently, Versace preferred his models small and thin, and most of the materials used back then weren't elastic - and unlike real humans, display dummies are not very flexible!

Do you like wearing colour, and clothes that stick out a bit?
I like colour, but not really so much that it automatically makes me the centre of attention... ;)

  1. I really like your 'choice' of suit. My colour comes from my neckties. I stopped wearing them every day when I retired and stopped wearing suits. Now I've just started again. I like bright, interesting ties.

    1. Graham, sometimes a "splash" of colour is all that's needed... Myself, I have a drawer full of scarves that can be used for much the same purpose!

  2. I love bright colors, but not all on one piece of clothing. I carefully studied not once but twice, each photo and could find nothing I would wear even if they gave it to me...

    1. Sandra, I have to confess I felt just about the same. There was almost nothing I could imagine myself actually wearing. A silk scarf, perhaps...

  3. I like mostly autumn colours so his clothing wasn't really my style but it's sad use and many other designers use stick thin models cos most of us have normal bumpy bodies.

    1. I just can't stop laughing at your comment and 'normal bumpy bodies'.

    2. Amy, I can only agree :) (and confess that the basis of my own wardrobe consists pretty much of jeans, stretchy pants, cotton t-shirts and zipper sweaters...)

  4. What a cool post today! I actually like most of these. I am like a crow, my eyes are always drawn to colorful, shimmering and sparkly things! Of course what I like is just way too much, so I have to tone it down a lot.

    1. Ginny, yes, what catches the eye is not always what is the most practical to actually use! ;)

  5. I well remember when he was killed, the news were talking about nothing else for what felt like weeks.
Much as I respect the creativity behind those outfits and much as I love silk, there is nothing in this collection of outfits I would like to wear. Bright colours and patterns do feature in my wardrobe, but somehow these look a little too loud for me :-)

    1. Meike, I agree. They're not my style either - except that I did kind of fall for that one suit. Even if I could get that perfectly fitted in my size, though, I'm not sure when I would ever have occasion to wear it... Art exhibitions, perhaps?! ;)
