The rhododendron and the azaleas have been amazing these past couple of weeks. Beginning to fade away now (after a hot period followed by rain), but the photos above were taken while they were in their prime. The massive hedges of purple rhododendron are found in our town park. The pink ones grow "right on my doorstep"; and the azaleas in the old graveyard where I walk almost daily. A blast of colour to get summer started!

my home town is famous for azaleas, big ones, but these are bigger than any i have seen. gorgeous
Beautiful but not something I could really grow in my garden
I have never seen any azalea hedges this huge! It is gorgeous.
Love Rhododendrons, they are quite hard to buy now since Covid hit but lots of Vireyas are in the shops. We have one in our front garden, not sure how big it's going to get though.
That is a spectacular display of rhododendrons as I can ever recall seeing.
Thanks all for your comments ♥ The huge rhododendron hedges in the park must be several decades old (in my memory they've "always" been there, and I've lived in this town for 35 years now); and those azaleas in the cemetery I think at least one decade. (I remember them replacing all the birch trees along that drive through the cemetery, some time after I moved to this neighbourhood, which was 13 years ago. And I think the azaleas were planted along with the new trees.)
It truly lifted my winter spirit to see that colourful display. Love rhododendrons.
