Yesterday I bought this small sunflower at my supermarket. It was only ~35 cm ( ~14" ) high including its original pot. At home, I re-potted it in a somewhat bigger pot, which I then put in this basket and put it out on my balcony. It will be interesting to see if it grows really tall, or if perhaps it remains a "dwarf" variety.
The last few days we've been having (in my opinion) "nice and cool" summer weather here - by which I mean not too hot neither outdoors nor indoors (but also not cold, nor very rainy).
Now they say that we can expect another heatwave coming in for the weekend, with like 33°C on Friday (or into the 90s in °F). Way too hot for my liking, as that will soon turn my flat into an oven with nowhere cooler to escape to. So I can't say I'm really looking forward to it... What I will never understand is why our weather-people on TV insist on always reporting forecasts about really hot weather as "good news", looking pleased about it!
Perhaps the Sunflower will enjoy it, though? (That remains to be seen!)

Much as I love hot weather for certain things I certainly don't like it that hot indoors and absolutely not at night.
It is very pretty, and big enough that it makes me wonder how you managed to lug it home. Don't you have air conditioning, or is it just not turned on till later in the summer?
Like Graham, I enjoy hot weather but not indoors, and I sleep much better when it cools nicely for the night. We are in the middle of that heat wave now, Monica; I was glad that both my operation on Tuesday and my check-up on Wednesday were at 7:15 and 7:30 in the morning! When it gets so hot during the day, I can only keep the blinds down and the windows shut on the south side of my flat. It helps that I do not have to work right now, but can lay down in my dark, (relatively) cool bedroom.
Ginny, the plant does not even reach to my knee. And when I bought it, it was in a smaller pot. No problem carrying it home in a paper bag! As for air conditioning, that's rare in Swedish homes and certainly not standard in apartment buildings.
That is really a beautiful sunflower and I love the bush and leaves as much as the flower itself! It should do really well out there and it will be interesting to find out if it's a small or gets really tall. I feel for you for the coming heat and no AC I had just told someone on another blog that the one thing I feel like I could not do without in life is there air conditioning
Graham, I agree the nights are the worst - a few days of hot weather can be okay here as long as the temperature drops at night. But the longer a heatwave lasts, the more the heat indoors builds up. And in a city, there's also always noise to take into account when it comes to having windows open at night etc.
Much the same here, Meike... Blinds down and windows shut not to let the heat in during the day. In my bedroom I also have extra dark curtains drawn at night. It is to the north east but in the summer the sun hits it very early in the morning - several hours earlier than I normally like to get up... ;) The room I use as study is even worse though as it has the sun all afternoon and evening.
Sandra, as you have a hot climate all year round I do understand air conditioner is necessary. Here, the summer is short and not always that hot, and our focus is more on keeping warm in winter!
