Daytime Downtown Decorations

The rain passed during the night, and today I woke up (...late...) to blue skies, and even a glimpse of the sun. To make the most of the daylight, I went out for a walk around noon. Having no special errand, I thought I might as well walk into town anyway, to have a look at the Christmas decorations, even if the lights wouldn't be on at that time of day, and most shops are closed on a Sunday.

The Christmas tree in the square has some new golden balls in it though, doing its best to look festive even in the daytime.

They had put up a giant umbrella on the platform in front of the old court house that serves as stage for various outdoors concerts and events this time of year. Probably a wise move!

So far this season we haven't seen any snow here, but in the park there is an (artificially frozen) ice-skating rink:

Footbridges over the river are decorated as usual.

The trees all bare now.

Remains to be seen what winter will be like this year.

    1. Today (Monday) has been frosty, which probably gives it all a more proper wintry feeling. I haven't been into town today, though!

    1. Glad you think so, Sandi. Nowhere in Sweden really looks its best in November, though :)

    1. Ginny, November has been rather rainy so seeing a bit of blue sky again was welcome :)

    1. I've never bought any, but the smell did add a bit of atmosphere to the otherwise very empty city centre (Sunday and almost none of the usual shops open)

  5. Few people were about, it seems, or maybe you just took pictures only when there weren't too many at one spot.
Here, the Christmas market is to open tomorrow, but since other federal states (such as Bavaria) have officially stopped all such markets with the crazily high Covid numbers, I'm afraid it is only a question of time before the government of Baden-Württemberg will follow suit.
Therefore, I am determined to go tomorrow, take advantage of it while it lasts!

The decorated foot bridges are lovely, and the tree is rather impressive.

    1. Meike, not much happening in the city centre on a Sunday = not a lot of people roaming the streets either...

  6. The decorations look lovely, and must look even better when lit up - there's something magical about Christmas lights. We don't seem to have many here, even in the town centre, but some of the lamp posts have small illuminations attached to them. I'm not sure if they are new, or have just been left up from last year! January 6th is the big celebration, it eclipses Christmas, and is traditionally when the children receive their gifts from St. Nicholas.

    1. CG, the days being very short here in the north in winter, we certainly need some extra lights to brighten things up. Which is probably one reason why we tend to fill all of December with them :)

    1. Sandra, whether there will be any night views for me depends a lot on the weather! ... as I'm not really all that fond of being out in the dark...

  8. Definitely getting into the swing of winter now. If I were 60 years younger I'd be having a go on that ice. That is the period that has lapsed since I last ice-skated.

    1. Graham, I never learned to ice-skate at all - physical balance acts were never really my thing. (I was never any good on skis either.) I'm happy if I can stay upright in winter with anti-slip thingys under my boots...

    1. Now that has me pondering whether "nothing has changed" is a good thing, or not! (LOL)
