Easter Saturday in the City Centre

Easter Saturday is the day for more secular'public celebrations. (Cf. my post yesterday about church.) The sun came out for a while around noon, and I went for a walk downtown. As usual in later years an 'Easter tree' had been set up in the main square, and there were some dancing games for children going on around it. I made no effort to get really close, though, so all you see in these photos are the backs of grown-ups watching!

Flower bed by the river, photo taken on my way home.

A hint of green showing now, in the hedges along the other side of the footpath.

I like open air celebrations taking place in the city centers or in the main squares.

I don't remember reading about an Easter tree in "The Bible" and certainly not one festooned with balloons.

There's a really good size crowd there!

It looks rather chilly, but at least it was dry - otherwise I guess the crowds would not have been drawn to the Easter tree.

Dura, it certainly makes the city looks a bit more lively than on an ordinary Saturday. The city centre has had a hard time recovering from the effects of the pandemic - and some other things in the city planning lately haven't really helped either.

YP, as I said in the introduction, on Easter Eve it's the secular (or even heathen!) traditions that dominate... You may even see witches about on their broomsticks! (A bit like Halloween in other countries.) In some places, big bonfires are also lit in the evening, and in my childhood fireworks were often sent off as well. (Yes, I'm about 100 years old or so. Or at least feel like it sometimes.) Traditions go through changes though, and vary from one place to another. Nowadays most of the fireworks concentrated to New Year, and bonfires lit on 30th April, Walpurgis night.

Love all those flowers, looks like a lot of fun for the kids and I would stay far away myself

Good to see people out and enjoying themselves. You were lucky with the weather. We have had much welcome rain these last couple of days, but the many tourists who have arrived here for sunshine, wouldn't agree!

Not really all that chilly either, Meike - even if still best to keep winter coats on...

Sandra, I can't recall having been really fond of big crowds and playing dancing games with strangers even as a child... ;)

We've not seen very much of the sun here for Easter either, Carol, but I think we've had less rain than expected.
