Frosty Morning

I woke up to a very frosty and foggy morning today. Shortly after 10 am, when I set off for a walk into town for an appointment with my hairdresser, the fog had lifted; but trees and bushes were still covered with frost. With the sun shining, and no wind, it did not feel quite as cold as it looked, though. The photos above are from my walk into town, the ones below from my walk back.

At home, the tulips bought one a week ago (left) were definitely past their prime today (right), so on my way home I popped into the flower shop and bought a red begonia, which will hopefully last a little bit longer.

  1. Brrr! A chilly day indeed. Even here in southeastern Texas the temperatures are not expected to rise out of the 30s F. today. I guess our week-long winter has finally arrived.

    1. Thanks for visiting my blog, Dorothy - I'm not sure if we've "met" before! :)

  2. The begonia is gorgeous!! And I love the frost photos, especially the frost on the large bush. The sky is a gorgeous intense blue!! I've always loved the blue horse and carriage.

  3. love those icy trees, especially the 2nd photo center. begonia is fantastic, mine on the porch has tiny flowers, not full like yours. tulips are beautiful also, bright and cheery inside, cold and beautiful outside. I just had an appt in my bathroom with ME. I have cut my hair myself 3 times now. bob can't do it any more, but he trims the back lower off my collar

    1. Sandra, wow that's brave, cutting your own hair... Way back in the past I did sometimes cut my own bangs, nowadays I don't think I'd dare. (My hair is so much thinner these days that I'm afraid any mistake would stand out a lot more...) I remember your disappointment with a hairdresser some time back though so I can see why you don't really trust them either!!

  6. Although I like looking at frost-covered trees and bushes, I have had quite enough of below-freezing temperatures now and am looking forward to it warming up today. A high of 11C is forecast for my area, and the weekend is supposed to be even warmer - I so want a nice long walk, possibly today after work.
The begonia will keep you cheerful company for much longer than the tulips, which were truly gorgeous messengers of spring.

    1. Meike, a weather change to slightly higher temperatures is likely to reach us too for the weekend. Probably more likely to bring rain (and initially maybe even snow) than sunshine, though.

  7. What beautiful crisp, clear photos. Sad to see that the tulips are past their best but the begonia will lift your spirits for some time to come.
Yesterday was a beautiful day here - we felt that spring had arrived. A friend and I walked our dogs beside the sea and sat in the sunshine to have our coffee. Today the sun is struggling to break through the heavy cloud and it's much colder - it's so changeable at this time of year.

    1. Thanks Carol. I never expect tulips to last more than a week (if even that), so no complaints. A bit too luxurious to keep buying them very often, though! The begonia is likely to last a bit longer.

  8. Oh the begonia looks amazing! Even your "past it" tulips look nice. Stay warm!
