Today the clouds seemed less "compact" than they've been lately, and before lunch I decided to go for a short walk over to the old cemetery. Almost a week since last time, but the weather and snow conditions are still pretty much the same. The temperature has steadily kept below zero even in the daytime, and the nearby streets and the major cemetery paths are for the most part dry and clear of snow and ice.
In the cemetery, I practiced a bit of walking without actively using my walking pole with every step. (I.e. from time to time I just held it hovering a few cm above ground for a while, without setting it down - but ready to do so if needed.) I also made mental note that my knee still does not like the slightest downhill tilt - while slightly uphill doesn't seem to bother it as much. (Worth remembering when choosing where to walk...)

- me dressed in full winter gear...

You look warmly wrapped, Monica. It's good to take note of how your knee is reacting, but clearly it's improving all the time.
ReplyDeleteJanice, dressing warm is a priority this time of year - and not least when one isn't able to walk very fast! ;)
DeleteWarm and stylish, you are looking good! Yes, be very careful as you walk. You are most sensible.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kay. :)
DeleteIt is always nice to "see" you and not just to "read" you, Monica!
ReplyDeleteYes, downhill - even with only a slight descent - is not what our bodies like, as people with with knee, hip and back problems will readily confirm. Trouble is that mostly, when one walks uphill, sooner or later a downhill part follows...
Tree silhouettes against the sky never fail to impress me.
Meike, you are right of course about the "sooner or later" part... ;) ... But living in a town with lots of "ups and downs" there are sometimes alternatives worth considering and comparing to one another when planning one's walks...
DeleteGreat selfie photo! Goodness, the cold you must feel on bare skin, especially to take photos with a glove off! Impressive. Hope the knee is able to withstand more downhill walking slowly.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, yes, I do tend to "think twice" about getting the phone/camera out to take photos in frosty temperatures compared to the rest of the year... ;)
DeleteSlowly, slowly, gently does it. I once found with an ankle injury, going up was better than going down.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo
ReplyDeleteThe weather in the UK has not been as challenging, although the impact of storms ( currently Chandra ) have been devastating for people in its path , with a great deal of flooding
I have only left my cottage today to retrieve my recycling bins that decided to enjoy the breeze and fly down the road - and to persuade my elderly but adored cat that it really was far too wet for him to stay outside for long
Siobhan
I love the photo of you. You are adorable, and I love your pretty coat. YES, my knees do not like downhill even at a very small slant. But uphill is better. I think it may be because downhill sets me off balance.
