Weekend Reflection: All Saints’ Day

CIMG7655-001

In Sweden Halloween/All Saints' Day is primarily a weekend when we remember the loved ones no longer with us. I visited some of the family graves last weekend with my aunt and uncle who were visiting. I didn’t take any photos then. It’s been a grey and rainy week, but yesterday the sun came out just before it was time for it to go to bed, and I went out for a short walk then to the cemetery very close to where I live, where we also have one old family grave. Took the camera along this time.

    1. Last weekend did not offer any good photo opportunities anyway, Virigina, because of very grey and dull weather.

  4. Wonderful pictures for All Saints Day. I was taken back by the headstone of Gustav Anderson, and my best friend's dad was Swedish and his name was Gustav Carlson. A very sweet man. Been gone a very long time, but my childhood memories of him are so good.

    1. Gustav Anderson was my great-grandfather - my mother's mother's father. He died the same year my mother was born, so even she never knew him. The name of the house where my grandmother grew up is also on the stone, though, and I do remember that house from my early childhood. We used to visit two cousins of my grandmother who lived there ("old ladies" to me). The house was torn down many years ago and replaced by a petrol station. - Gustav is a very common name in Sweden and has remained popular over hundreds of years, as it's also been the name of several of the Swedish kings.

  6. Strangely enough regarding the subject, I see a smile done with leaves, in the puddle... :)

  7. Vilka vackra bilder du visar. Det är bra att ibland få ta ett bryt och stanna till inför de som inte finns hos oss längre.
    Ha en fin dag

  8. Oh, what evocative, autumnal pictures! Of course it is more so in Sweden than here, as your winter nights are so long. But one really feels the year drawing in....

  10. That first photo is very special and the rest touched my heart as I think of our family grave in Sandsborgs cemetery in Stockholm. A beautiful tribute on All Saint's Day.

  13. Amazing moody captures. Love that gravestone, and the last one with the birds is phenomenal.
