Road Trip 2018, Part 14
Borgholm is the main city on the island of Öland. It has only around 3000 inhabitants but attracts a lot of tourists in summer. The huge grey monstrosity of a building hovering in the background of the last photos here is the ruins of Borgholm Castle; first built in the second half of the 13th century, but destroyed in a fire in 1806. (We’ll be going there for a closer look in my next road trip post.)
Looks like a beautiful little harbor. Looking forward to getting a closer look at the castle!
ReplyDeleteWonderful boat photos! I love the streamlined two story yacht with the canvas roof. I am surprised that the building was a castle! It just doesn't look like one from here, so many windows! Can't wait to see and read more.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful trip you were / are on! My favourites are the open rowboats. I can see myself out on a quiet calm sunny day, poking my nose into bays and islands, and having a warm snooze in the bottom of the boat, cradled by the waves.

ReplyDeletesuch a beautiful marina, and so very many different types/styles of boats. beautiful photos of all of them. I love that windmill header. just stunning..... I am with Ginny, the castle doesn't look like a castle.
ReplyDeleteSandra, the photo in the header has been up for a while and is actually from another trip back in 2015. It's a slightly different type of windmill than the ones we saw on Öland. But the landscape and colours similar to this year, so I didn't bother about changing the header...
DeleteThere are certainly enough boats of different shapes and sizes to keep a keen photographer entertained. They make lovely images.
