Today I got out for an "early" walk, as in around 10 a.m., before it got too hot. We're still in that rather unusual September heatwave, which at the moment seems likely to last into next week. At the same time, certain trees are turning more and more yellow already, and also dropping quite a few leaves to the ground. The sensations one gets from one's eyes vs the warm air touching one's skin don't quite add up, somehow.
Who drops one sandal on a footpath without noticing??
(It's not a really small child's shoe.)
A high summer flowerbed starting to look a bit "wild"...
you are right, seeing yellows in the trees you should be taking deep breaths and saying ah this feels good. that last over grown flower bed is what we have only much worse, we have been living in a steam room since April, everything is out of control. I long for cool air that is not run through vents from a metal box.
ReplyDeleteI laughed when I read you went out for an early walk, 10 am here we are at 90 , our early walk is 6:40 we were walking at 6, but the days are getting shorter and shorter and thad dreaded time change will be herein a flash
Sandra, once upon a time (way back in a distant past) I did have to get up at 6 or even earlier to get to work. Nowadays, I'm rarely "up" before 8 or 9... or out and about before 10 (unless I have a doctor's appointment or something like that)

Delete6:30 am here as I am typing this, and still dark - really dark, as it has been overcast all night and started to rain at about 4:00. It feels strange to switch the light on when I get up, but of course I'll soon be used to it again!
ReplyDeleteFor my part of the world, a much cooler and rather unsettled week is forecast, with intermittent rain nearly every day. But before that, we're expecting 29C and wall-to-wall sunshine on Saturday.
Meike, I can hardly even imagine myself up and "doing things" early in the morning now. Even in summer I'm still in "slow mode" that time of day... From my childhood I recall hearing grownups say that old people always wake up/get up early. So far, I'm not fitting into that pattern!

ReplyDeleteIt's still dark here at 7 a.m. when I get up, but by the time I've showered and breakfasted, the sun is just above the horizon and it's time to walk the dog. There isn't much difference between the seasons, but the recent rain after such hot weather has made the garden plants run riot.
Carol, early autumn is my favourite season of the year and I don't really mind if that gets stretched out a bit. It's just unusual for it to be this warm in September.
