During the night between New Year's Day and today, the rain turned to snow again; and this morning I woke up to blue skies, a thin layer of snow on the ground, and the winter sun doing its best for the short while it was up. I tried to make the most of that as well, so took my walking poles + studded boots out for a walk into town and back. (Which means I was out for about an hour.)
There is a temporary ice skating rink in the park in winter.
On my way home I followed the path along the river and then across the cemetery.
The forecasts for the next few days are a bit vague again. As so often, around here we seem to be in a border zone between snow and rain...
I may be linking this post to the blogs below,
when their respective posts for this weekend turn up.
Such glorious winter light and clear sky.
ReplyDeleteNo snow here, but ice and very cold temperatures. I am glad to be snug and warm inside.
JC, one advantage of retirement is that one is often able to choose for oneself now whether to go out or stay in... ;)
DeleteIt sounds like you had a beautiful winter morning! There's something magical about waking up to blue skies and a fresh layer of snow. Your walk into town with your walking poles and studded boots must have been refreshing.
ReplyDeleteRo, being the first day of that kind in a long time it was certainly welcome.
DeleteYou got great photos!! My favorite is the second one with the lovely green roofs.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ginny. Sunshine and blue sky was a welcome change to all the foggy greyness lately.
DeleteYou did the best thing with this wonderful blue sky and sunlight by going out and walking for an hour! I hope to be able to go for a walk today, too - none yesterday, as it was raining non-stop and after dark it turned to snow. Not much, just cold and wet enough to keep me indoors.
ReplyDeleteMeike, today I woke up to snowstorm but now at noon it seems to be clearing up again. No snow plough has been round in my immediate neighbourhood, though...
DeleteI love looking at other people's snow. I have an appointment in town at 0915 today and it's a bit snowy. I'd rather it wasn't.
ReplyDeleteGraham, I hope all went well. Snow is certainly best enjoyed when one does not *have to* go out in it, and no appointments to keep...
DeleteAll was fine. By the time I'd cleared my windscreen the road surface was clear.
DeleteCold fresh air and blue skies - a perfect start to the day. The sun glancing through the bare trees looks so promising. It may not last long, but it's good to see.
ReplyDeleteJanice, just a thin layer of snow like yesterday is perfect. Today there is more of it and I'm not sure yet whether to venture out or not...
DeleteBeautiful to see, the fresh snow is always appealing to me. Glad you went walking through town, and caught some lovely photos! The one with the blueish horse and carriage had me pondering, then I realized it had a camera thing happening which made the angles, not a weird sculptural message!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, the name of the sculpture is "Vibration in blue", made by a French sculptor, Xavier Veilhan (2014). So it really does look like that - nothing to do with my camera! :)
DeleteI always enjoy bright shiny days that you can take a cold walk. the photos are so clear and sharp and everything always looks so clean and bright. plus I get shots like that beautiful blue buggy
ReplyDeleteSandra, it was indeed a rare "perfect" winter day.
DeleteThose are beautiful photos. Looks so very peaceful.
ReplyDeleteWonderful blues.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so pretty especially with the snow probably crunching under your feet
