This weekend we were blessed with a welcome glimpse of sun and blue skies; but streets and walkways are still covered with frozen slush with some loose snow on top. So still every reason to tread carefully when out walking - even when wearing boots with studs on the soles.
I managed my usual weekly walk to the nearest Recycling station, though. (Bag in one hand and one of my walking poles in the other.)
And then back another way than I came - just for some different views. Zooming in on some old houses across the main road. The house on the top of the hill was once upon a time the mansion of some important citizen, but just now I can't recall if a wealthy manufacturer, or some high-ranking military man in charge of the nearby regiment. (Now I think the house is owned by some business or other.)
The snow/ice situation was about the same in the whole area, plus icy winds making it feel several degrees colder than the thermometer said. So I did not extend my walk very far.
Today the wind had died down, and I went over to the cemetery for my usual round there. Didn't stop for photos until I was nearly back home again, though. (Fingers still get so cold when one takes off the gloves...) The two below is fromt the playground in the middle of the housing estate where I live.
(No - there were no children out playing on this Sunday around 3:30 pm.)
It definitely looks cold, glad you had your walking pole on the icy snow. Stay warm and safe.
ReplyDeleteThe house on the hill is very grand. Good that you had your walking poles with you.
ReplyDeleteThe sky is such a beautiful intense blue in the one photo. Well, even though you say it's slush, it looks slippery and dangerous. I think you must have the best balance of anyone I know!
ReplyDelete*Frozen* slush now Ginny, so yes it was slippery. My boots with the studs on the soles are actually better on hard ice than in wet slush though!
DeleteThe snow lies so thickly that all seem enshrouded by a wintry mantle.
ReplyDeleteYou do well to tread carefully, even with studded boots. No need to rush around and risk a fall.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I was glad for the sunny day yesterday, but didn't extend my walk as much as I would have liked to, had it been warmer. I was well wrapped up in warm clothes and didn't feel the cold on my body, hands or feet, but the cold was biting my face, and breathing the icy air didn't feel all that good for my respiratory system. (No use pulling a scarf over my mouth - it would just steam up my glasses.)
Some beautiful old houses there, and of course I love the late afternoon light in the sky.
Meike, I'm certainly not "rushing" in this kind of weather. (Actually I'm very rarely speedwalking in any kind of weather these days...)
DeleteI thought I'd left a comment, but apparently not. Anyway, your photos are lovely and the blue, blue sky is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJanice, I just checked and your original comment went to spam. As usual for no apparent reason at all, it's a mystery to me what criteria they use...
DeleteYour second photo looks so crisp and clean!
ReplyDeleteIt's turned quite cold here, too, with morning and overnight temperatures in single figures. Forecast to be as low as +4ºC on at least two nights later this week and we have an almost constant strong wind, which adds to the chill.Outside there is a beautiful deep blue sky the same shade as the one in your second photo. Although the sun is shining it's not a day for lingering outdoors.
Carol, here it's grey and temps up above 0 zero again, and likely to stay like that for a while. Remains to be seen if the old snow and goes away completely before the next round of colder weather. (Always better if it does, but alas not much one can do about it...)
Deletethey are all gorgeous, I like the playground at the end as my favorite today. love that house on the hill. and you did extend you shadow, ha ha. agree we Coppa, crisp, cold clean on the second one.. did not post today, waiting on a plumber, no flushing toilets in house.
ReplyDeleteHaha on the comment about extending my shadow, Sandra. I forgot to comment on that myself but obviously the afternoon sun is still very low here. Hope you get help quickly to sort out the plumbing problem!!
DeleteMay I say you have a lovely shadow. Your legs are incredibly long so I guess you are a great can-can dancer. Did you work in Paris?
ReplyDeleteNo YP. Here in Sweden we just walk on stilts in snowy weather... 😉 ❄️
