Lazy Summer Days

CIMG5570-001

I still have some more photos from our Friday outing unblogged; but to bring you up to date, since then we’ve had three consecutive lazy summer days at our House. Most of the time just sitting in the shade…
We = me, my brother, and his dog Harry:

Pfft! (spitting moss)… Did someone mention my name?

I can be alert if I want to! What’s that smell??

On a walk we found a bottle of lighter fluid lying in the middle of the road leading to/from the lake. (Someone probably dropped it off a bike.) It inspired Per to also find the barbeque grill…

As for me, in between my sittings in the garden, I also did a little more exploring inside. In a wardrobe upstairs, I unexpectedly found this hat:

From the initials inside it I conclude that it used to belong to my grandfather. I can’t recall seeing any photos of him wearing it, though.

  1. Silly me. I managed to erase this post (believing I was only erasing a draft copy of it). However as I relized what I had done, I also managed to recreate it from Feedly, where it was still visible. But of course all the comments are now missing...

I am in love with Harry...he is a cute boy.
Your summer day barbeque with your brother looks like fun.
Your hat reminded me of a childhood song:
"Where did you get that hat?
I should like to have one
    Just the same as that
Wherever I go they'd shout "Hello"
Where did you get that hat."

I don't think I've ever heard that song, Virginia :)

    2. May be it's the way I sang it that you didn't recognize.....smile.

Sandra, while I was snapping away at the fire on the grill (I did take more than one shot of the flames) I explained to my brother that it was for this pyromaniac friend of mine in Florida... ;)

Lovely hat! It's satin, isn't it? This particular shape of hat is, I think, called top hat in English and Zylinder in German. Men used to wear it only for really special occasions, such as very important social "dos". Maybe no-one simply ever took a picture of your grandfather on those rare occasions. It wasn't like nowadays, was it, when we can just snap away at anything with our digital cameras, or even our phones.

Harry seems to be the perfect companion for lazy summer days! The spiral cable makes it look as if he's been plugged in somewhere - as a plug-and-play dog, maybe, or to be online :-)

Meike, I'm thinking my grandfather may have (first) worn it for his wedding. There are no outdoors pictures from that, only an indoors studio photo (where of course he is not wearing a hat).

Harry was indeed sort of plugged in - firmly into the ground... At the other end of the cable is sort of sharp spike that you drive into the ground. So easy for Per to move from one place in the garden to another.

Sandra and Meike - The hat was not fur but not satin either. It has a kind of velvety/plushy feeling to it, I can see why such hats had to be brushed (and brushed the right way).
