Today, on Valentine’s Day, the town’s Energy Company decided to treat passers-by to a little extra warmth in the form of free hot drinks and vanilla custard hearts.

And yes, I had read about this in the local newspaper beforehand. If I hadn’t, I’m not so sure I’d have found today the most perfect day for a walk along the river…

That concrete bench in the middle picture (and another one nearby) also has built-in heating, though.  So not a bad place to rest your feet for a while - even on an ordinary chilly day, when no coffee is being served.

(This place is along a new riverside walk that was opened in December last year.)

Linking to Weekend Reflections.

  2. There always seems to be free entertainment in your town. It looks as if it was worth the walk.

  3. What a romantic idea with the heart balloons and coffee and sweet treats. A heated bench, brilliant! We need to treat the river running through our city with more attention and love so I will visit the link of the riverwalk you offer.

  4. I love this post! I like the way we start from the beginning and you take us with you. The whole time I was scrolling, I was excited to see where we were going. Because your town has some fabulous events. The building in the first picture...I love the steps shape of the roof. The tart looks divine!! And the heart balloons beckon everyone to come. A heated concrete bench???? I have never heard the like, and I for sure have never seen one. The shape looks comfy too. I would hazard a guess that there are none around here anywhere!

  7. Concrete benches with in-built heating?! Now that is a luxury I've not yet heard about! I wonder whether it is a very popular place with homeless people.

  9. Thanks all for your comments. These are the first heated benches I've come across myself - but then I haven't been visiting any other towns recently, so dare not say how unique (or not) they might be. I have the same question myself as Meike - if they might be popular with homeless people. The place is a little out of the way from the shopping streets though - and I'm seldom out and about much after shopping hours myself (especially not in winter).
