Weekend Reflections

CIMG4873-001

Passing by a familar river view today, it struck me that there was something strange about it. It took me a moment to figure out what it was.

The thing is that in this little dam below the bridge, the water is usually always kept in motion – but today it was still.

Usually there is a waterfall running over that edge, splashing and spluttering as it hits the level below; and  no clear mirror images to be seen in the dam either.

I like the penultimate image. Try flipping it horizontally no one will know. I suspect it would draw the eye in better.

Am I correct in saying that I haven't seen these views from these angles before? If I have I certainly don't recall them. I like them.

Both views are lovely, I do like the rushing water which is the way it usually is.

How very tranquil still water is... But moving water gets aerated and so is probably healthier for fish. Which makes me wonder if there are fish?

Water and reflections are so beautiful to the eye.

Love your daisy banner.

I wonder why the change was induced, because I am pretty sure it was done on purpose. Anyway, you happened to catch the right moment for a great reflection on the still water, something you did not expect to see, which makes it all the more interesting.

I agree that flipping reflection images around can give even more interesting results sometimes, Adrian ;)

Thanks Norma.

Thanks Sandra. I've never seen the water in this spot as glass-like as this before.

Thanks Graham. All I can say for sure is that you've never seen these views with reflections like these before... I know I've taken dozens if not hundreds of photos from this bridge over the years, on many different occasions, and in all seasons. But since I've not been consistent in my tagging, I had a very hard time finding any of them now, when I wanted a "comparison" picture!

It's usually a rather noisy spot as well because of the waterfall, Terra - which is probably another thing that subconsciously made me aware that something was different on this occasion!

Yes I do think there are fish in the river, Kate. Or at least it happens sometimes that I see hopefull anglers trying their luck from a footbridge a bit further down...

I suspect there may have been some kind maintenance work going on, Meike, if not at these watergates then perhaps further up in the river.
