Still Chilly

CIMG0024

The Christmas tree in the main square was put in place already a week ago; which many people thought was too early… But with the snow and ice that followed just a couple of days later, it was probably just as well that they did get it up in good time.

(… says she who also chose to get her own little tree up on the balcony before the snow fell – and is glad that she did!)

A bit chilly for a barbeque

Compared to the rest of Sweden, here in the south-west we haven’t really had all that much snow yet. More problems with icy streets, so far! In Stockholm, though, they got about 50 cm of the white stuff yesterday (breaking records going back more than 100 years for early November). And further up north in Sweden, they have had even more – 1 meter or so in some places.

So, all kinds of chaos competing in the news this week… On the whole, though, I’d say that the focus in the Swedish media this week has been on watching and discussing events taking place much further away from home… (The US election.)

Your pigeons look so cold, poor babies.

Your little tree is so cute!! Is that lights on the branches? Those pigeons are making a perfect line! Good thing they got the tree up early, else they might have been slipping around in the snow and ice. I await your yearly post about the markets.

Christmas trees up already? That IS early! Having said that, our Christmas market begins in less than two weeks, on the 22nd of November. By that time, of course the big tree on the market square will also be up. I won't start decorating until the Saturday before the first Advent Sunday, but I have ordered the first batch of presents already two or three weeks ago.
Like the pigeons and the rest of Sweden, everyone here was watching and waiting, too, reg. the presidential election.

Can't wait to see that gorgeous tree decorated. I love that they put that big tree up and we could see it each year. I really like your little tree too and I know it's pretty at night and since you have days that are low like it would be pretty all the time. My sister-in-law put up one of her Christmas trees Monday and I usually put mine up on Thanksgiving day but I don't know if I will or not

Yep. They used to have a tree on the opposite side of the river from there... Which was recently taken down, and replaced with a younger one. Not that any tree with bare branches will give much protection in winter, anyway. But it seemed to me that they were staring at that spot and missing happier and warmer days... :)

Yes Ginny, my balcony tree has built-in LED-lights on the branches. Looks a bit like white snow-berries in the daytime which is what makes it a nice decoration even when not lit.

Yes, it is a bit early, but then 1st Advent is early too this year. The main reason was explained in the local paper though: The tree needed to be cut down where it stood, so the best solution was to transport it directly to where it was wanted, even if a week or two earlier than usual. :)

I bought my 'balcony tree' with the LED-lights on bare branches last year and put it up for Halloween then; and with the weather forecasts predicting early snow I decided to put it up early this year, too. (We celebrate Halloween the weekend after 31st Oct.) (With any kind of lights it's easier to put them up while fine weather and not too cold...)
